Arrowhead Pointers?
« on: February 17, 2013, 12:04:07 »
Aces and Acecas (and Saloons and Greyhounds) used the large (5") Smiths speedometer and rev counter. The indicator needle fitted to these instruments is known as an 'arrowhead pointer'. I'm in need of two, and my local instrument repairer has now exhausted his stock. Does anyone know of a source please? Speedy Cables and Speedograph Richfield don't have any. Thank you, Tim

Tim/Barry,
Isn't Caerbont just another arm of Speedy cables?

I think it is vice versa. Caerbont ist the producer, Speedy cables is one of different distributor like e.g. https://www.europaspares.com/. As a private person it is not possible to buy from Caerbont directly.

Their company addresses and postcodes are both listed as Speedy Cables.

Caerbont Instruments are SA9 1SH (01639 732200), SpeedyCables are SA9 1SQ (01639 732213).
Must be very close together, same Industrial Estate, but different phone numbers.

For what it's worth, it's the same needle as the XK 120, hence looking around in the Jaguar department might prove useful.
             Good luck in your endeavours.

Good idea Laurence, I'd forgotten the XKs etc used the same needle. I'll try some of the classic Jaguar specialists. Thank you, Tim

PS Thanks Robin. You are correct, the (Jaeger badged) instruments from a TR 2/3/4 have the same shaped face as the Ace/Aceca. These are what I use as they convert quite easily. Speedograph Richfield have a 'screen' that will print the correct style of numerals on both rev counter and speedo. It's the needles that differ (and in the case of pre '59 Aces one does not get the clock in the TR speedo, but I can live with that.) Tim
