Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Ace Dashboard Questions
« on: November 27, 2012, 13:26:04 »
There are many different lucas rotary switches that come under the model type PRS7.
I have a listing from a 1963 lucas book that gives the Ace two speed wiper switch as 31568B/F and 31568E/F.

It is also possible to use the earlier PRS5 switch that was fitted to XK140 Jaguars. This is also a two speed switch, although it requires slightly different wiring as it has fewer terminals.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Ace Dashboard Questions

The Ace glovebox door is made from 1/4" thick plywood. The door has a thin layer of cotton/felt wadding material under the leather unlike the dash, which has the leather glued directly to the aluminum panel. The leather covering the door has a piping stitched round the perimeter except where the hinge is located. The leather is attached to rear of the plywood door with small closely spaced metal tacks, this face is then covered by a thin piece of trim board covered with rexine/vinyl that is glued in position.

The correct Lucas PRS 7 (13 terminal) wiper switch is hard to find now but occasionally NOS ones can be found at autojumbles or on Ebay. Some kitcar builders have been able to source new wiper and panel light knobs from ERA replicas in the US or from Superperformance in South Africa.

   Good luck with your search,
   regards Luke.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / SU Carbs for AC ACE
« on: July 17, 2012, 07:29:58 »
I'm already aware of Burlen but unfortunately I also need the inlet manifolds, linkage and air filters.
The correct carbs for an Ace/Aceca are 1 1/4"  H2's.

Hello John,

I'm currently searching for a set of carbs and manifolds to help with the restoration of AE503,
when you have arrived at your sale price could you please let me know via PM.

I also tried to track down the Ebay set but the vendor had already sold them.

   Many thanks, Luke.

BEX258 is a good restoration project especially with the racing history. I saw a file of over twenty pictures from Gullwing and all the parts were present and correct, even a spare cylinder head.
Also, although  the car had obviously been stored for a long time, it had not been subjected to the normal V8 conversion with all the attendant modifications. The chassis although covered with suface rust
also appeared straight and unmolested. Al in all I think the price for this car was just about spot on hence the quick sale.

A friend of mine just missed out on buying BEX 258 earlier this year, it sold within 24 hrs of appearing on Gullwings website!

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Record Aceca price?
« on: July 04, 2012, 22:16:28 »
The Aceca that sold in the Bonhams Goodwood sale BE605, also seems to have turned a quick profit. It was advertised for sale on the car&classic website earlier this year for £52000 in Germany. It now has a UK registration but appears otherwise unchanged, not a bad way to make a living!

Couldn't agree more about the Greyhound, it's a shame so few were made and that many have been robbed of their running gear.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Screen Washer Push Switch

Jonathan,

You are very welcome to the info and I agree this is the sort of oddball query that this forum
   can really help with.

Just to be clear though the Complete Automobilist switches are latching ones not single push  action as the originals.

   Regards
   Luke.

The correct lucas push switches are now hard to find but NOS ones do occasionally turn up on UK Ebay, usually just listed as "Lucas switch".
As you only need the knurled top I think these ones http://www.completeautomobilist.com/products/switch-1-push-switch-5-piece/ are the same although the switches have an incorrect double action.

   Good hunting,[:)]

General Forum / Ethanol & additives ?
« on: June 17, 2012, 21:36:44 »
My understanding is that the ethanol degrades over time ie in storage over the winter. This then leads to  the fuel becoming more acidic and therefore corrosive. The fuel additives available stabilize the fuel and stop or slow down this degradation process.

The FBHVC have now published their findings on a long term test of fuel additives and I
beliveve that they found three products that succeeded in dealing with the common ethanol problems. The information can be found on their website, already linked to by Administrator
   in the earlier post.

   Regards Luke.

Sorry if this is a bit late for your project but it may be of help to others, the correct Metalastik bushes for the Aceca diff housing are available from Brian Eacott. They are fitted as pairs so six are needed in all.

   Regards Luke.

Even if some work was done on the car subsequent to the 2009 sale, someone must still be very happy with their profit margin! [:D]

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Aceca: removing the footbox?
« on: March 21, 2012, 17:54:53 »
Now that your foot boxes are out I can see that the flanges on the lower outer edges are cut out around the step and sill woodwork. On AE503 this is not the case, so to remove the foot box you either have to remove the sill panels or cut the fiberglass!
As 503 is such an early Aceca possibly there was still some evolution going on with the design?
