Title: 2 litre exhaust
Post by: AndyN on September 06, 2021, 14:11:46
Hi all. I need a new exhaust for my 2 litre saloon. looking at the one fitted the diameter of the exhaust pipe is a lot smaller then the diameter of the manifold! can anyone let me know what the pipe diameter should be? Also do i need to  retain the 2 expansion bikes on the manifold as they only seem to make the engine bay hotter. Could i blank these off?

Any advice would help
Andy

The Ace Exhaust Manifold Pipe diameter is 1.375" OD The Exhaust pipe before the silencer is 1.625" OD
Clearly it would be an advantage to have a new fabricated manifold & get rid of the iron original AC manifold as you should improve performance with better gas flow.

Hi Andy

When I had my Weller engine I took cans off and made 2 blanking plates. I found it ran better.
I also matched the ports and manifold with a small grinding ball.

I forgot I went to 1.75. Stainless pipe with a stainless exhaust box. Also helped.

When I was running a Saloon, a while back now when I was a student, I kept the manifold and cans and the silencer under the drivers chair but put on a 2" straight drainpipe from there to the back and got rid of the big box by the back axle.  I am not sure how much better it ran but the sound!!!!
