The Sprint went ahead as planned albeit in a rather more subdued fashion than usual, early finish and no prize giving as a mark of respect.

Sadly no prize giving meant that we were unable to thank the many helpers that make the sprint the success it is, the Goodwood marshals, officials from Goodwood Motor Circuit and Motorsport UK, the scrutineers, the timekeepers, the medical team and most importantly the band of ACOC volunteers that make this event happen - many, many thanks.

Just to let potential spectators know that the sprint is still taking place on Saturday.

With the sad loss of HM Queen Elizabeth on Thursday our sprint organisers have been in discussion with Goodwood and Motorsport UK and the Sprint meeting will still go ahead, there will be a two minute silence following the drivers briefing commencing at 8.25am sharp and proceedings will end earlier than in previous years.

General Forum / New Chairman
« on: July 31, 2022, 17:43:09 »
Dear all,

Following a turbulent couple of months the AC Owners' Club has a new Chairman.

I will be producing an introductory statement for the club magazine and for addition to the members are of this website in the very near future but would like to reassure our members, and prospective new members, that we are back on track.
The Club Council has seen some changes, not least our chairman of 10 years, Andy Shepherd, stepping down. I would like to thank Andy for his time and commitment to our Club, it is my hope that Andy will stay involved with Club management in some way.
We have taken onboard criticism from some quarters and will have learnt from past mistakes which will make us stronger going forward, we face challenges still but your Club Council working as a coherent body can and will overcome these challenges.
I note with interest that the Bristol Owners Club and the 289 Register are also experiences problems at the top, must be something in the air !

Best regards,

David Goose - Chairman AC Owners' Club

ACOC News and Events / Re: Le Mans 2022 Ferry Tickets
« on: July 07, 2022, 21:30:42 »
Would like to say a massive thank you to Andy, can't imagine how difficult this event would be to organise even without the two year delays brought about by the pandemic.

Some great racing at a very busy Le Mans circuit, hot and dusty just as you'd want it but the highlight was relaxing by the pool on the Sunday afternoon with a few mates and not a care in the world, no gardening, no shopping, no DIY - just talking cars and other stuff that blokes talk about.

Fortunately nobody hurt, Richard & Coral continued their trip up to Derbyshire.
If anybody has a surplus passenger side door please let me or Richard know.

That's horrible, Richard & Coral were booked in for the Derbyshire trip this weekend.
I'll message later to see how they are, damage to panels appears quite significant.

For any Ace owners looking for new front tyres in original size (225/50 16) I can highly recommend the Avon ZV-7

Fitted earlier this week to replace the old Dunlop's and not overly expensive at £172 for the pair fitted, front end stability is markedly improved. Sadly they don't do a 235 for the rear.

« on: January 18, 2022, 12:54:40 »
Always E5

Thing to note here is that E5 petrol doesn't necessarily have 5% ethanol as far as I'm aware, the terminology is UP TO 5%.
Certainly BP ultimate 98RON /E5 had a far lower percentage or even zero ethanol in some parts of the country until quite recently.

I've always used the more expensive fuels in the AC's, and garden machinery for that matter, I wouldn't leave E10 sitting in my mower over winter so certainly not the Ace.
For the mileage most of our cars cover in a year the additional cost of E5 probably isn't that significant.

Nothing to do with this thread but there is a very decent, well sorted Ace currently being advertised in the AC Owners Club magazine if anybody's interested.

All the best,

David

We're still on for Tuesday evening.

We have use of one of the glazed pods by the outside bar area so weather shouldn't be a problem, bar food menu available and they serve a very decent Cambridge Pale Ale !

Appreciate this isn't the ideal time of year for an evening meeting and that the fuel issue could be a problem but would love to see you, I'll be there from 7.00.

Feel free to call me in any queries 07931 142901

Brilliant day and so good to catch up with other AC people, well done John and the Sprint team.

Also thanks to Bob for organising a terrific national day making the weekend an AC double header, a bit to much excitement for the Brooklands I'm afraid as she let me down in Mondays M25 chaos !

Cambridge Regional Meeting - NEW VENUE

For many years the Royal Oak at Barrington hosted a monthly gathering of Classic Cars to which the ACOC (via Clive Bowyer) were invited, these meetings have been discontinued, not sure if temporary or permanent but seemed like a good time to review and choose a more accessible location.

The new location will be The Lodge at Duxford which is just off the M11 at J10, close to Cambs, Essex & Herts borders. There is plenty of parking at the Hotel and options for eating and drinking (whether inside or out) plus accommodation should that ever be required.

The plan initially would be to convene one evening each month except January, there is no need to book but rough numbers would be useful so please ping me a text or email if you expect to come along.

When: 1st Tuesday of each Month (except January)  - from around 7.00pm starting October 5th 2021

Where: The Lodge Duxford, Ickleton Rd, Duxford, Cambridge CB22 4RT  www.thelodgeduxford.com

BE662 is currently / was recently for sale. Now listed as "under offer" by Graeme Hunt ltd.

Sold very cheaply at Auction in 2019, given the condition and provenance of this car and as recent winner of the Club's Hurlock Trophy it should have done very well.
The Hurlock trophy is awarded by the ACOC for best presented car at the club's annual national day.

The dealer was seeking offers around £190k, nice write up on the their website which briefly mentions your Father involvement with the car.
