Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / Re: AC 2 litre steering box lube.
« on: April 10, 2018, 19:44:20 »
Sorry for the late response but I've been using the Penrite steering lube for years & have found it to be an excellent product. The only small problem in using it, is that it's so thick you have to warm  the bottle in a hot water bath to get it to pour. I usually take the top off the steering box when filling, rather than use the filler plug to speed up the process.

I can also recommend Penrite HD bearing grease ( much better than Castrol LM & perfect for kingpins aswell) & their graphite grease, which I use on leaf springs.

Regards Luke.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Early flat-screen demister vents
« on: October 20, 2017, 22:06:27 »
Peter, I don't have any drawings for these parts. I restored an Ace a couple of years ago that was fitted with these vents & I thought it was a good opportunity to have some moulds taken from the original parts while they were removed from the car.

I'll email you some photos of the original setup & of the new castings.

   Regards Luke.

I have some new die castings for the early heater vents. They are made in two pieces that sandwich the scuttle panel between them,a specially moulded rubber elbow then connects the lower castings to corrugated tubes going to the heater.I'm afraid I don't have the rubber parts, I was going to have them 3D printed but unfortunately it turned out to be prohibitively expensive.

Hi Robin,

Thanks for the info, I have a friend who has also been searching for one of these tacho drives so I'll pass on your contact details to him.

   Regards Luke.

The correct dynamo for an AC engined Ace is a C39 PV2 Lucas Part No. 22258E. The correct pulley is a cast alloy type with integral fins.

The 3:1 ratio tacho drive gearboxes were only fitted to the Ace & Aceca, as the 2 Litre wasn't fitted with a Tacho. Unfortunately these small gearboxes are made of solid unobtainium, I was searching for one for four years before one eventually turned up on Ebay.

Commiserations on your mishap.I have an Ace door jig & can make you a new door frame. Unfortunately it'll be at least two months before I would have any time to get it done though. Anyway, I'm happy to help out if you can't find a more timely local option.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / differntial bearing housing
« on: April 28, 2017, 07:55:43 »
On the Ace units I've seen the dowel pins are welded on the ends inside the diff housing. I've rebuilt Ace & Aceca differentials & am not aware of any differences in the bearing housings, indeed I have interchanged them between the two models.

I've also fitted new billet CNC machined bearing housings from INRacing in Nottingham, (part No. ENG1301) without any alignment issues.

I would go ahead & refit the dowels in their original holes together with a pair of new housings. BTW the original dowels should be 3/16" diameter.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Aceca gearbox cover
« on: April 02, 2017, 10:14:00 »
Hopefully the photos should be self explanatory. The small rectangular cover that fits in front & above the gear lever hole is just a closing panel for the bulkhead opening, as the opening is taller than the flange on the gearbox cover. The fibreglass is quite thin, certainly no more than 4mm thick anywhere. The cover is secured with 2BA set screws & washers screwed into rivnuts mounted in the bulkhead & floor panels

   Regards Luke.

The cover over the gearbox & prop-shaft is all made in one piece.
I'll try & include some dimensions with the photos.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Aceca gearbox cover
« on: March 30, 2017, 07:15:51 »
The Aceca gearbox cover is made from thin fiberglass. I have a rather tatty cover from a 1955 Aceca & will dig it out & take some photos over the weekend.

The small holes in the face of the bonnet catch brackets are not normally used, but I've sometimes seen them used to hold small extension plates that adjust the positions of the bonnet latches.

I suggest you try Robush Ltd. They seem be able to supply every type of bush or rubber mounting known to man & they helpfully have no minimum order.

Hi Peter,
Good to see you are still making progress. I obtained a pair of brass castings for quarter light catches from the club spares scheme a couple of years ago. Hopefully there are still some left if you make contact. They are the same type as shown on the right hand frame in your photo.

   Regards Luke.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Ace Rear Bulkhead fabrication
« on: November 07, 2016, 21:16:08 »
The rear bulkhead trim is made up of a thin cardboard panel covered with leather & two pieces of partially bound carpeting, as shown in the photos.

The trim card is approx 1/16" thick & the leather is stuck to it with all the edges folded around, apart from the two curved edges where it overlaps the board by around 1/2".

The board is then glued in place on to the bulkhead panel & finally the two carpet pieces glued in place as shown below.
