Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / front wheel brakes
« on: November 27, 2012, 14:42:08 »
The 1927 Acedes drophead coupe I campaigned as a student had brakes on the front, almost certainly originally-fitted.
Absolutely zero provision for torque reactions other than quarter-elliptic front-spring location (clamp and bolt each spring)... and after I'd improvised some cable-adjustments one sunny sunday, the barely-adequate stopping power of the car suddenly became considerably more noticeable. The curious outcome was that, in contrast with it's previous nose-diving attitude when stopping, under hard braking, the front of the car would now rise up.
Dunno how it would behave 50 years later.... the present owner is still trying to find time for even further on-road research....

Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / Old AC in need of repair
« on: October 24, 2009, 11:50:19 »
I've been fascinated by ACs ever since
campaigning a 1927 dh coupe 50 years ago.
If bobbylangley would like me to share
a couple of thoughts on a no-obligation basis,
please email me marros AT clear net nz
(I happen to have a Jensen 541 de luxe,
waiting for collection from near Gloucs,
   but I s'pose that's way off-topic ;-)

Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / 1937 2-litre engine available
« on: November 27, 2012, 15:34:24 »
I have most of a PVT AC 16/80 2-litre engine: this was what remained after a (less than well-advised) Last-Century conversion of a drophead foursome 16/80 using a postwar engine.
I have been offered most of an Italian engine for my non-AC project, so this motor would be available at not more than the 5000 euro which is what I expect the Lancia motor to cost.
The cylinder block is not available, it disintegrated (new-improved block can be cast in Australia, approx 1500 quid....) and I think the camshaft is missing.
I will check the boxes in detail, so anybody interested to purchase please email for photos. Shipping: boxed parts will be included in a container of motor cars or parts, to Tilbury... or Pimlico... or w.h.y [8D]
