My company recently came up with what I think is an improved low profile design for the rather ungainly standard issue Mk IV hood. The aim was a better aesthetic and a removable 'clip in' rear screen (UV stabilised acrylic) to enable higher speed cruising with reduced lift. The rear screen stores perfectly in the boot, taking up virtually no room, is optically clear and pretty waterproof. Removing it does reduce the 'ballooning' although obviously there is a lot more through draught.
In any case the car can do 85 mph with the only issue being wind noise. As you can see, the roll bar now lives outside the hood and the concept has proven to be completely satisfactory
