Clutch slave; Girling 7/8 part number looks like HO 5687 although the '5' is not super clear.

My car is Bristol with Moss gearbox and is conveniently on axle stands at present!

Very cool, found them listed under TR3.

If anyone can share information on the larger aluminiumplate that would be helpful. What exactly is it's function and is a factory part or a period modification?

Hi there gents.

My brakes had these components in them, two anti rattle spring things, with mounting pieces and one larger aluminium cover over the whole assembly. Pic attached.

What do other owners use in this area and where do you get the replacement parts please? Is the aluminium cover a racing part for additional pad retension or a factory part?

I did do a search but  nothing came up, possibly the parts are known by different names.

I bought a 400 mm length of filler pipe from Merlin Motorsport (after much searching!) for about £40 including VAT & shipping. Its actually 57mm, or 2.25" so may need to be warmed slightly to fit it, mine is awaiting fitment.

https://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/p/fuel-filler-hose-non-reinforced-per-200mm-ffh

I particularly like the pipe, because it has that sort of period wrapped look and has no branding or spec numbers printed on it that much fuel pipe does, therefore it looks very authentic.

I have a picture of my '58 Ace when nearly new showing the Long Range and Fog light fitted thus expect these were fitted by the factory. The lights have individual switches, I'm not sure whether the Long Range light would be wired in series with high beam, but this would put additional load on the head light and dip-switch so I expect they were wired independently.

The switch positions are located on the lower edge of the dashboard to the right of the steering wheel. I've attached a picture hopefully you can see the two blanking grommets just under the right hand spoke of the wheel. Mine are not currently fitted.

As Keith explained I believe these should be labelled 'LR' and 'Fog'.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Re: Ace - Hub Puller
« on: January 05, 2018, 09:01:55 »
General update on this task; I bought the proper puller from Malcolm Gammons up at Brown and Gammons and the upside of that visit was we had a good chat about my Ace and his Devin SS that he's raced at the Revival. I then successfully used the puller to separate one side with the 5 foot breaker bar / heat / 3kg hammer routine. On the other side I've had 9 attempts so far in the hope that with the heating and cooling it will eventually loose grip. But if it's moving, it's nano-meters rather than microns!

Question to AE512 - when you mount the assembly in the press how are you supporting the hub, are you pressing through the cast hub carrier?

Mark - you must be my closest ACOC member, hi thanks for making contact.

Robin, very kind of you. I'm coming down to Bosham on the 29th Dec, so that may well be an option. James

TTM thanks, I spoke to Brian and now understand that he offers a range of suspensions bushes, repair kits and other parts including brake hoses. I've arranged to send him my list of requirements once I have finished dissembling the suspension.

Bill - I emailed Ashwater but they didn't come back to me, so yes, I'm still looking for one. Is it worth checking yours is the correct part? I can supply photos if you need.

Roger - very helpful indeed. Always better to get the right hardware. Can I assume that all the smaller nuts and bolts around the Ace will be BA type?

(There's quite a range of thread types on these vehicles that I'm getting to grips with, like Whitworth and the inimitable British Cycle Fine to name two!)

Gents,

Thanks very much, I've written to my registra Tim Isles. Lets see what information there is. [:)]

I've also just sent the DVLA the form V888 to request what information they have on previous owners and changes of ownership, to compare with our own records.

Both inquiries will no doubt be interesting.

Thanks for help, progress as follows;

   1) I have successfully navigated across to the Wiring diagrams, with Bobby Langley's help for the ACOC members area Log On.
   2) Classic Auto were able to help with my Roll Hoop question. I spoke to Nick (Aubrey's son) who shared the name of the company they use for Roll Over bars, whilst also having a useful conversation about hard tops and racing screens etc.. :-) .
   3) No leads on 2nd hand wheels yet.
   4) Car hardware is indeed BSF, I measure some threads - I now have taps and dies on order.
   5) Carb rebuild - I have emailed Gower & Lee - thanks for the name.

Is there a 'how to' guide for attaching pictures to the forum posts?
