Following a year`s break, (...and I`m sure Kevin told me "Never Again!" [;)]) Shaun Lynn and Kevin Kivlochan are competing in the Tour Auto across France.
Details of their last attendance in 2012 HERE: (http://"http://www.acownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2262").
Updates below courtesy of Russell from ONI:
Hi Everybody,
I’m Russell Brown and I work with Kevin Kivlochan.
This year it’s back to the AC Cobra for Kevin and Shaun. As usual Kevin will be working the maps and Shaun will be driving. They have won in this car before so fingers crossed.
As usual there is a Tour Auto website (http://"http://peterauto.peter.fr/en/evenement/course/id/30/nom/Tour+Auto+Optic+2ooo/idarticle/340/article/Le+Tour+Auto+Optic+2ooo+en+direct
") where you can see more photos & updates.
There is also a new iPhone App that you can download from the App Store for updates on times.
The cars were on display at Le Grand Palais in Paris on Monday, then set off for the first road stage at Vaux le Vicomte.

The teams were all up early Tuesday morning for the departure.

The day ends in Dijon after a few laps of the track at Dijon –Prenois.
-
We all wish Shaun & Kevin well and hope their skill and care pays.
They have some heavy lifting in relation to half the 'Cobra' field - replicas of distinctly non-60s construction.
-
Certainly no level playing fields to be found in France, so nothing new there (spare car anyone?) Just getting through scrutineering with a UK registered car is a challenge in itself.
-
That being said, Robin, they finished the first day 3rd overall, and 2nd on the Dijon Prenois Circuit, behind Ludovic Caron and Carles De Villacourt in another Cobra, but ahead of several more!

Russell`s update:
Hi Everybody,
Shaun and Kevin had an event filled day yesterday with a bit of a set back on the very first stage. They broke a distributor cap before the stage and then had problems with the replacement. Overall they lost 28 seconds to the Ludovic Caron Cobra who won the stage.
(http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q113/nikbj68/Tour%20Auto%202014/photo3_zpsfec51353.jpg) (http://"http://s134.photobucket.com/user/nikbj68/media/Tour%20Auto%202014/photo3_zpsfec51353.jpg.html")
The other British Cobras of Mark Freeman (3rd) and Tim Summers (4th) fared better.
At the Dijon circuit Shaun made up for the loss by coming in second – just 2 seconds behind Caron.
(http://peterauto.peter.fr/img-rsz/images/gallerie-evenements/30/public/Etape%202%20Dijon%20-%20Mulhouse/_PP23703660-445.jpg) (http://"http://peterauto.peter.fr/en/galerie/detail/id/30/nom/Tour+Auto+Optic+2ooo")
That puts Shaun and Kevin 3rd at the end of the first day with 30 seconds to make up on Caron’s AC Cobra. In second place currently is the Lajournade E Type which has been a strong performer in previous years.
At the end of the first day Mark Freeman is doing well in 8th and Tim Summers is in 10th.
Race results for today will probably be out in the morning so I will update you as and when.
Just so you think Kevin has it tough in the passenger seat he’s asked me to copy you a photo of his pace notes that he has to read as Shaun is hitting a bend at 90Mph.

Sounds like a piece of cake to me J

Hi Everybody,
Day two (Wednesday) saw the Tour Auto route wind North-East from Dijon all the way to Mulhouse just on the German and Swiss border.
The first stage took the cars from Dijon to the Chateau du Hohlandsbourg where the teams enjoyed lunch. Check out the view from the Chateau:
(http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q113/nikbj68/Tour%20Auto%202014/day2_zpscb5d53be.jpg) (http://"http://s134.photobucket.com/user/nikbj68/media/Tour%20Auto%202014/day2_zpscb5d53be.jpg.html")
The racing around Le Pailly in the morning stage was dominated once more by the AC Cobra of Ludovic Caron and the Jaguar E-Type of Jean-Pierre Lajournade – both sharing the same time. The next AC Cobra home was that of Tim Summers in 6th place just 9 seconds behind Caron and Jean-Marc Merlin brought his Cobra home in 9th place, 14 seconds behind the leaders. Shaun and Kevin finished the stage in 12th place, losing 17 seconds to Ludovic Caron. Mark Freeman’s Cobra wasn’t far behind in 15th place and 20 seconds behind Caron.
Stage 4 was a short sprint around the Forest at Herival and you will never guess who came through in first and second place!! Yes it’s the Ludovic Caron and JP Lajournade double act – only this time with Caron taking 9 seconds out of the EType and increasing his lead still further over the rest of the field. Shaun and Kevin finished the stage in 13th place, the best performance from the British Cobras but another 19 seconds down on Caron. Whilst Tim Summers made it round in 20th place (+25 secs) the Mark Freeman Cobra must have had a major incident coming home 33 minutes down on the rest of the field on a leg that was only just over 3 minutes.
Later on the cars headed to the Circuit – L’Anneau du Rhin (Anneau being the French for “ring” and Rhin being the river Rhine.) The 8 lap race was won by Chris Wilson (GBR) in his Ford GT40 but the next four places all went to Cobras in this order:
Caron (+7 secs)
Merlin (+13 secs)
Shaun and Kevin (+14 secs)
And Tim Summers in 5th (+16 secs)
Unfortunately things didn’t improve for Mark Freeman in his Cobra and he was given a time over an hour down on those who finished the 8 laps. It looks like his car didn’t complete any laps so the problems from the earlier stage were obviously still hampering them.
Ludovic Caron did pick up a 40 second penalty on Day 2 but it hasn’t done much to damage his lead as he managed to open up his overall lead to 57 seconds over the Lajournade E Type and Shaun and Kevin are sitting in 3rd place – 1m13s behind Caron. All of the top ten places are taken by AC Cobras or E Types at the end of Day 2 with Tim Summers in 10th spot (+2m41s).

Hi everybody,
Today (Thursday) was day 3 on Tour Auto and we’re back to the usual controversy that we’ve seen in previous years where certain local drivers (who I won’t name) seem to be getting away with murder and the Brits are battling on regardless. Shaun and Kevin will, no doubt, be happy to fill in some of those gaps on their return to the UK this weekend but let’s say they have been having a frustrating time of it.
The route on Thursday headed South West to end the day on the circuit at Bresse. As usual there were two shorter stages and then 8 laps of the Bresse track.
No surprises on the first leg where Caron extended his lead still further and performances of note were Tim Summers’ Cobra in 6th (+10s) and Shaun & Kevin’s Cobra coming in 9th (+12s). There was no time posted for the Mark Freeman AC Cobra so I’ll have to assume their problems from Wednesday have seen them withdrawing from stages until they can either fix the car or retire. I’m not certain that they have retired so I won’t mention again unless I see them spring up with a recorded time on a stage.
The second stage had a very familiar feel about it with the Caron Cobra and the Lajournade EType taking the spoils. Shaun and Kevin finished the stage in 4th place (+12secs) and Tim Summers in his Cobra was in 11th (+19secs).
The best news of the day is that Shaun was able to give everybody a pasting on the track at Bresse this afternoon and completed the 8 laps in first place.
Other positive news from the track:
Chris Wilson came home 2nd in his GT40 (+3 secs). Jean-Marc Merlin’s Cobra was next (+7s), then Tim Summers in his Cobra (+12s) and in 5th place was Ludovic Caron’s Cobra (+17s).
I don’t have any news on penalties for today but the results that have been published show the lead slashed for Ludovic Caron – he now has the Lajournade E Type just 34 seconds behind and Shaun & Kevin are in 3rd spot, 40 seconds down on Caron. Although the top three are pretty tight they have opened up a decent gap on the 4th placed car (Merlin’s Cobra) and Tim Summers is in 8th spot (+2m25s).
These results will have penalties added tomorrow if there are any but the word from the pits is that a lot of infringements are going by without punishment so I’m not expecting Shaun and Kevin to catch up that way. They will have to catch up on the roads and on the circuits.
On Friday the cars head south from Aix-les-Bains to finish the day in Valence and then on Saturday they will finish the day and the whole race in Marseille.
It doesn’t take much for the race to turn (as we have seen in previous years ) so hopefully Shaun and Kevin will have a bit of luck on Friday or Saturday to help them up from 3rd spot into the top place. It’s not a massive lead to overcome so fingers crossed!

Russell`s Update:
Hi everybody,
Late update today with my impending nuptials tomorrow. Not sure I will be able to give you a full update tomorrow so will point you in the direction of the Tour Auto website – trust me, it will be worth your time looking up the results as it’s turning out to be very close and we are down to just one more day now.
I’ve attached a photo from Thursday as the guys approached Aix-les Bains (by the lake).
(http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q113/nikbj68/Tour%20Auto%202014/photo1_zps1fbffc69.jpg) (http://"http://s134.photobucket.com/user/nikbj68/media/Tour%20Auto%202014/photo1_zps1fbffc69.jpg.html")
Shaun also managed to brake a clutch pedal yesterday with all those heavy gear changes but it was all fixed up by the side of the road.
(http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q113/nikbj68/Tour%20Auto%202014/photo2_zps19d966ab.jpg) (http://"http://s134.photobucket.com/user/nikbj68/media/Tour%20Auto%202014/photo2_zps19d966ab.jpg.html")
Today included the usual three stages – although all three were road stages and there was no circuit racing today.
(http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q113/nikbj68/Tour%20Auto%202014/photo_zpsd4d3d888.jpg) (http://"http://s134.photobucket.com/user/nikbj68/media/Tour%20Auto%202014/photo_zpsd4d3d888.jpg.html")
Summary of the performances today are as follows:
Stage 9
Yet again Ludovic Caron took the spoils in his AC Cobra with Lajournade coming in 7 seconds down in his E Type (behind another E Type in 2nd place). Shaun and Kevin finished the stage in 5th losing another 17 seconds to Caron. Tim Summers’ Cobra ended the stage in 10th spot (+28s). Sadly Mark Freeman’s Cobra didn’t place a time so it looks like they have now formally withdrawn from the race after problems earlier in the week.
Stage 10
I hope you are all sitting down and prepared for some bad news on Stage 10. Unfortunately it looks like our favourite Cobra crashed out on the stage and dropped 3mins 43 secs to the winning car. I know you will all be disappointed to see Ludovic Caron finishing this stage in 70th place but I’m sure you will find the strength to wipe away the tears when I tell you that the stage was won by Kevin and Shaun. However, they only picked up a few seconds on Lajournade back in 5th. Tim Summers finished the stage in a very worthy 3rd place just a couple of seconds behind Shaun and Kevin.
A disastrous stage for Caron dropped him down to 8th place (+2m59s) and effectively out of the running, barring disasters for a number of other cars. After Stage 10 Lajournade in the E Type took over the overall lead with just 13 seconds over Shaun and Kevin. Tim Summers’ Cobra was placed 6th overall (+2m11s).
Stage 11
In the final stage of the day our old friend Ludovic Caron was back in form at the wheel putting in a great effort to win the stage. Tim Summers finished in 4th (+8s) and Shaun in 5th (+10s). Lajournade’s E Type was a little behind – crossing the line 14 seconds behind Caron on the stage.
However, here is the bombshell you have been waiting for. As you know from previous experience, the Tour Auto can turn up some big surprises just when you least expect it. Although penalties are usually not published until the following day, it seems that our friendly E Type driver must have picked up a pile of penalties today as he has dropped down to 2nd place and he is now 51 seconds behind the leader. And the leading car is.... Shaun and Kevin in the AC Cobra.
That means they have a 51 second lead over Lajournade and a 2m36s lead over Ludovic Caron. Tim Summers’ Cobra is in a very strong 6th place at the moment but as he is only 4 seconds behind the Merlin Cobra he could climb up to 5th if all goes well.
So with one day to go here are some stats from Kevin for you when comparing the Cobra’s expected performance versus the 2nd placed E Type:
“Tomorrow we have one Special stage and one race track (Paul Ricard). Shaun, in theory should be quicker at PR by approx 20 seconds. Today we had three special stages (tomorrow we have only one) Today's stages:
1) E Type beat us by 10 sec
2) We beat E Type by 4 sec
3) We beat E Type by 3 sec”
Any predictions on the final result?
For the Saturday results please follow the link to the Tour Auto website:
http://peterauto.peter.fr/en/evenement/retour/id/31/nom/Tour+Auto+Optic+2ooo
Hit the button for “Results” then follow the VHC column all the way to the bottom (it’s the first column of results).
To see the results AFTER the end of Day 5 – select “Classement fin Etape 5”
There will be a PDF on there for any penalties on Day 5 too but these are usually far behind.
By the time the penalties get formally published online I would expect to see photos on the website of the winners popping the champagne corks. But who will it be.....?

As ever, there is an excellent report & huge 300-shot gallery on ULTIMATECARPAGE (http://"http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/event/334/2014-Tour-Auto.html").

Another report on the Tour Auto, this time from SPORTSCAR DIGEST (http://"http://www.sportscardigest.com/tour-auto-rally-2014-report-photos/"), with some truly spectacular views captured in excellent photographs. [8D]

From photos on the Interwebs, I've tried to piece together the complete list of nine Cobras that competed in this year's Tour Auto. Does anyone see any errors or omissions which I should correct?

Brian,
Your list accords with the ACOC register excepting:- 206: I believe this is the 2127 clone (Replica), reportedly built on a Kirkham chassis about nine years ago
- 253: The register has this as 2542, imported into Europe in the mid 80s. I believe 2547 (which was in Switzerland in the late 90s) is in the US.

No spare car needed Trevor, just take the Kirkham [:)]
