308 had a factory roll hoop installed shortly after delivery along with disc brakes and a 43/10 rear. The hoop is anchored on the chassis tube that bridges the top mounts of the rear shocks and that in turn is braced to the dif frame. Just under the body the roll hoop is bolted to the upper chassis tube above the rear suspension. While it doesn't look like much it is pretty stiff when properly installed. The first owner of 308 told me he tested it and it passed --- see "Ace Bristol Racing" page 66. I probably have pictures of the mounting somewhere.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Edmund Hamburger's car?
« on: March 06, 2011, 22:38:40 »
Tim,
I know two Ac Bristol drivers from the East Coast US who knew Hamburger. They don't do e-mail but may be able to supply some information for you. One remembers the car as dark red, were there any under coats or overspray in the wheel wells or on the underside to support this on 313? They also remember the car may have run without liners giving 2.2 liters, any indication of that? Quite sure that he ran on Englebert tires as well if that helps.
I'll be happy to facilitate communications.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Ace / Aceca Bishop Cam steering
« on: September 24, 2010, 15:53:21 »
I am currently fitting a rack and pinion set from Ben to BEX308. The unit comes with a slip ring set-up for the horn but the traffic indicators must be moved off the steering wheel hub. An analysis of the steering geometry with the original bishop cam system makes one believe the system may have been designed by a committee in the accounting department. 308 has had rack and pinion since 1971 but the first system I installed (badly as a twenty year old) used a rack from an MG Midget which is too long for the Ace front suspension so it was never very good. Even with the Midget rack the straight line stability was a huge improvement over the stock system. If you really want to enjoy the full capability of the chassis go with the R&P.

Try this one. www.racingsportscars.com You can search by driver, car, venue, date, etc. I tried searching for Parsons and several came up but not Jim. Both of the first owners of my car do come up. My experiance is that the late 1950's data is very incomplete including the offical archives of the SCCA.

Gus,
The youtube subject is the car in this thread and is in a shop in Virginia (www.classiccarcenter.net) listed under current projects; 308 has downdraft webers and is currently under restoration in Pennsylvania. There were at least 5 Aces with BOP power that I know of including this one. This approach seems to be where Ken Rudd was heading after the Zephyr 2.6 before Shelby showed up with all the Ford money and ended it. 300HP out of a 320 pound engine fits the Ace very nicely.

Most likely this car is AE 90. I contacted the restoration shop and was told the owner wishes to remain anonymous at this time but does plan to vintage race the car later this year. My interest in this car is twofold; first, my Ace also has worn a Buick engine since the 1960's and second, my car was at one time owned by Bill Woodbury's daughter's former husband who I have not been able to locate. I was hoping to possibly make a connection so I might complete the ownership chain for my car as well as establish more race history for the handful of BOP powered Aces. Regards Pete

Can anyone tell me were to find the chassis numbers on a Greyhound? Are they stamped on various parts like an Ace?
   Many thanks

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Ace Dashboard Questions
« on: November 24, 2012, 12:49:02 »
What was the original construction of the glovebox door on the Ace; was it an upholstered aluminum panel or was it based on a wood panel? Also, does anyone have a source for the correct two speed wiper switch and knob?
   Thanks

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Ace Body Finish
« on: March 05, 2012, 14:59:35 »
It's almost time to put the body back on 308. Does anyone know whether the factory applied any coatings to the inside of the alloy body skin or was it left bare?

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Wiper Parts
« on: November 10, 2011, 02:51:37 »
Does anyone know the correct part number for the wiper motor for an Ace? Did it vary by year? The spares list for Lucas parts lists a 75311 as being correct but the list is dated 1963. My car left the factory in June of '57 and I'm thinking a 75233 may be correct. If so, any help in locating one would be appreciated; what is fitted now is from the late 60's or early 70's. I suspect correct ones are now just slightly more valuable than gold.
In the same vein does anyone know a source for the chrome bezels for the wiper wheelboxes or what else they may have been fitted to?

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Body Seals
« on: April 08, 2011, 17:10:24 »
Does anyone know of a current source for the rubber seals that go on the edges of the inner fenders to seal between those panels and the body? My originals are pretty much dust at this point.
