Update EMU on CRS
« on: April 25, 2008, 11:33:56 »
Guys

Does anyone know of a specialist (please God in Surrey) who can re-programme/update an EMU on a rather modified CRS 5.0l motor.  The new one I have had fitted cuts the motor once it's warmed up and you come to a stop.  i.e.  It won't idle and it won't restart, at least not until it's cooled - long wait.

The guy who fitted it, and set it up (Gloucester), is finding it very difficult to get to the car (Guildford), and I don't want to trailer the thing across the country again.

   HELP!!!!!

I do not have direct experience of them, yet, but I have heard from a couple of sources the Brooklands Technical College have a state of the art rolling road and have worked with MkIVs. http://www.brooklands.ac.uk/course_view.asp?id=BCR3307
The idea of letting apprentices loose on your car may seem a little crazy idea, but they run an interesting course for motor sport apprentises called Motorsport Engineering BTEC National Certificate/Diploma.
I would suggest you give Alan (Big Al) at Thunder Road a call and ask his opinion of Brooklands Tech, Al's one of the guys that recommended them to me. If that doesn't work for you I know a chap that is really good with TVR EMUs and can try and get his details for you.

Mark Antony.

How Many EMUs can you get in a CRS ???    Two ...one in each seat !!

Seriously, As John suggests... Start with Big Al of Thunder Road,  Could also try Ian Rogers, who could well point you in right direction having spent many weeks sorting his MK1V "Spirit of Brooklands" Cobra.

   Have a Good Week-end.

When I had problems with my Superblower I took it to SAS in Aldershot. They have state of the art rolling road, diagnostic equipment, read out etc. They specialise in race/road cars and are the type of company that can see only solutions and not problems.
I suggest you give Tim (the owner) a ring on 01252 328080 and have a chat with him. (I also dealt with Ike but I believe he has now left SAS)
   Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the help guys,

Apart from Mr Smarty-Pants AC Ace Bristol - who is of course wrong.

You can actually fit 3 EMUs in a Cobra:- one in each seat and one under the bonnet - sadly like mine - the one under the bonnet ends up a little over-cooked!

It transpires that the gentleman from Gloucester is coming down to sort the CRS out (at no charge!) - talk about a man who swears by his product.  Hopefully all will be well shortly.  Failing that I will try SAS in Aldershot

   Many Thanks

Sounds like a Result,  Once your Emu problem sorted could be worth publishing short article in ACtion and on the Forum. Would be of interest to those members who dont venture onto the Forum.

On the Frivolous side, Simply forgot all about EMU number 3, hiding under the bonnet being cremated.

There you go, your never too Old to Learn. Mind you a little knowledge can be dangerous.

Kieth

I have already put two articles on what I was doing to my CRS into ACtion.  That was TWO YEARS AGO!!  It has taken that long - thanks mainly to two "professunalz" who took my money and my time.

When all is finished and the dust has settled and IF THE DAMN THING WORKS - then I will happily write it up.

   Regards
