What, like John Atkins' famously purple Cobra. Ha ha ha.... You'd have thought no-one would paint a Cobra like BEV did, wouldn't you?

That is the colour Tara Brown wanted it, and I would imagine money was no object,so thats the colours he had the car painted, such a shame its been repainted.

The paint job problaby cost a fortune .
How cool would it have been to drive round in a Cobra in the sixties painted in these colours ?

John Atkins has also owned some not so famous Cobras too !

Thanks for the link Brian, I do not have any interior shots of the car as it has always had the cover on when I have seen it.

The Cobra was sold to a Bromley-based buyer for £360,000 including premium.

6107 is the first ex-works coil spring 289, leaving Thames Ditton on 11 November 1965. 6106, the factory demonstrator and the first 289 Sports completed, was finished a month earlier and road registered by AC on 13 October 1965.

The rectangular tail lights are no mystery at all: AC used rectangular tail lights on all leaf spring cars, and on all coil spring cars until 24 November 1965. Thus all 427s up to CSX 3200 have them, as do the only two coil spring 289s completed by that date.

By way of an update - 6107 has found its perfect soul-mate and is now part of a caring family who will feed and care for it until one or the other expires. It's been purchased for driving purposes and not to turn a profit (I know - who'da thought?!!) So should you ever be driving in the vicinity of the Bromley Badlands and a purple blur hurtles past causing you to spill your skinny latte, now you know what it was.....

And to add to Trevor`s update. A skilled team of Cobra experts are in the process of restoring the mechanical side of things, making the engine run properly and repairing some suspension issues, caused when the previous owner had a car park bump! It has also had a new hood & sidescreens.
   Some of Trevor`s photos:

The new owner sounds like a really top bloke, who needs virtually no excuse to use the Cobra, so hopefully many many of us will get to see it out and about!

I like the colour, change the exhaust from side exit to the original rear exit and it is done.
Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler!

Exhausts are in the "To be done" list. They are a bit loud. It now drives, handles and goes like new thanks to some proper TLC.

The Grammy Awards, held in the USA tonight (26 Feb. 2014), had Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr performing on stage. Front and center was Paul's piano, which was clearly painted by the BEV group, and in the same colors and similar pattern as their paint job on COB 6107 back in the 60's. Amazing it still exists.

You'll be seeing that piano every time Sir P.McC. performs as it was recently painted by Dudley Edwards (the E in BEV) who is very much alive and painting still. (May be registered as a trademark)

That dippy-hippy paint scheme was part of 6017 for a matter of months. More interesting (to me) is the fact it was driven right across the USofA, back in the day....

Trevor, although the article in the Post said that was the plan, I wonder if it was ever followed. If it had been, I would have expected some kind of publicity from here in the colonies about the journey from along the route. Certainly never did see any ...

Word from the BEV camp is that it did. My spies need to find out more - watch this space. (But it was the sixties and some of that weed was a bit on the strong side - maybe they just thought it did...hell of a trip...)
