428 Frua Forum / CF 64 For Sale
« on: September 28, 2011, 01:55:42 »
Hi Guys,
After a 5 year adventure and not inconsiderable cost I am selling CF 64, it can be viewed at the Oldtimer Australia Website. Age unfortunately has treated me a lot worse than CF64 and now I suffer the consequences of a bruising Rugby career and a few motorcycle accidents and I find the car uncomfortable. I also have a garage partially filled with bits and pieces such as two convertible doors pretty much complete plus original intake and exhaust manifolds and boxes of assorted bits.

428 Frua Forum / Tool Kit For CF 64
« on: December 04, 2010, 01:16:11 »
Hope to collect my rewired car this afternoon with its freshly louvered bonnet/hood and with blower fans mounted on the face of the radiator fingers crossed for a cooler ride.

Does anyone have a tool kit for the car or a photo that may enable me to put a kit together ??

   Cheers

428 Frua Forum / Road Test
« on: November 16, 2010, 03:53:01 »
Gentlemen,
We very nearly had one Frua less in the register !!!
I took CF 64 on its maiden voyage but when smoke was seen coming from under the bonnet I quickly pulled over on the freeway shut the engine down and exited very quickly. Did not open the bonnet until I got it home a couple of hours later.
It appears the wiring to the fan mounted on the back of the radiator had shorted out burning out the fan motor and a healthy part of the loom.
Car now being completely rewired towit I need a set of Clear Hooter Switches any help greatly appreciated.
We are mounting two 9 inch fans in front of the radiator and I am louvering the bonnet each side of the engine above the exhaust system, also reviewing some exhuast fans to pull heat out through the side vents.
Despite the Dynamat inside and sandwiched externally in the firewall and footwells the car was very hot.
I still need a Nose Badge Andy !!
The upside was that prior to my mishap the car performed magnificently and the power from the Cobra Jet is amazing, stopping the car is another story - not sure if the brake boosters are working.Ground clearance is another issue especially where the headers and extractors enter the collector. Australia loves speed humps which are usually 3 to 4 inches high and my ground clearance is a bout 2and a 1/2 inches.
A bit of trial and error and I think we will have the car set up for Aussie conditions.
   Cheers

428 Frua Forum / Sting in the tail CF 64

The car is complete we started her up to give it a test run and noticed water dripping from under the Dash. Traced it back to the heater valve at the back of the Heater Box and determined that it is shot. A helluva job to get the box out and suspect it will be fun to put it back.

Does anyone know from which car the heater box came from ???

Also just been ripped off by a guy that had two Clear Hooter switches to replace the melted ones in the car, he hit me up for $240, ouch !!

To our US brothers Happy Independance Day enjoy the fireworks.

428 Frua Forum / Door Handle
« on: November 26, 2009, 00:46:27 »
Again a cry for help I need an internal door handle and seat ( the round bit that sits on the trim ). We do have a spare quarter light knob if any one is interested.

I am guessing that the door handle comes from a car of the era however the seat looks to be an AC item as it has a number engraved on the back.

We are so so close, hopefully this is the last plea for help, no guarantees however.

A description and/or photo would be helpful.

428 Frua Forum / CF64 Expansion Tank Bracketry
« on: September 01, 2009, 04:39:09 »
Gentlemen,

Foolishly I thought my parts quest was over but alas this is not the case. We have the top hose and radiator expansion box both beautifully manufactered by Great Dane and we have the dimensions of the spacers that the box sits on.

The question is what do the spacers sit on and what is the bracketry that holds the expansion box in place, at present we have no idea as we look at it just empty space. We have a few ideas of tying to the cross member or the top of the shock absorber post.

If anyone has a sketch or photos of how this little gem of a tank fits into the car it goes without saying that we would be most grateful to be imparted with this knowledge.

   Cheers

428 Frua Forum / Windscreen Washers CF64
« on: August 06, 2009, 02:59:01 »
This is THE never ending story, just when you think I have it all something else turns up missing. In this case the windscreen washer nozzles and suface fixing plates, with Andy's help we located and bought the washer bottle.

The nozzles however are proving to be a problem.

Again any help will be greatly appreciated.

C'mon guys,

Does any one know if the rear window for the Frua fastbck was manufactured or pinched from say a Masseratti?

I believe that my window was damaged in transit from Canada to Australia probably by the bumper bars that were all shoved inside the cabin.

I can get one manufactured here but it will be without the demister heating element.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

428 Frua Forum / Exhaust System
« on: July 12, 2008, 03:37:58 »
Another cry for help !!!!

We are about to abricate a stainless steel system for the car modelled on the very rusted pipes that came with the car but have a question.

The existing tail pipes circa 2 and a half feet long look like a megaphones going from about an inch and a half to two and a half inches at the outlet, is this correct ???

If not some dimensions and a photograph would help

   Thanks

428 Frua Forum / CF 64 Bits and Pieces
« on: July 10, 2008, 03:40:09 »
I finally have the car painted and we are now emptying the boxes of bits and pieces that came with the car when purchased. Of course there are a few broken and missing pieces like

   Front turn signal lens
   Rear Lens set
   AC logo for the nose
   Ash tray for centre console
   Header tank for coolant system
Chrome boss for light fixture in the door (when open)

Any suggestions or information would be greatly appreciated.

I am trying to piece together some of the history of my car and particularly how it ended up in Vancouver Canada. The guy who last owned it in Canada was a registered ACOC Member that also owned a Cobra 289 CSX 2085, his name is C.Darvell.
May be the current owner of CSX 2085 might know this guy as I would like to have a chat with him to fill in some of the blanks.

428 Frua Forum / Air Cleaners AC 428
« on: August 08, 2007, 04:11:48 »
This may be a silly question so.... Why does everyone put the 14 inch or thereabouts circular air cleaner on top of the carby ?
I like the Cobra oval air cleaner sitting on top of a Holley Carby and that would match the Cobra Le Mans rocker covers.
Is it a size problem ?

428 Frua Forum / Engine Heat CF64
« on: July 22, 2007, 02:40:18 »
Gents,
I had thought of making a second Bonnet(hood) with louvres to get the hot air out of the engine bay, I have to replace the existing bonnet(hood) in any event. Now the coach builder, also an avid reader of this forum, recalls Andy Shepherd's story of the dog bowl on top of the air filter and has come up with the following suggestion.

When he makes the new skin he can increase the hieght of the hump such that by the time it get to the windshield it will be half an inch higher than the original and he can cut the existing four apertures into a single opening to allow even more air out.

At the same time he can fabricate a couple of air scoops behind the radiator ( between the rad and engine ) to force more air into the engine compartment. In theory this sounds very plausible to me, any input on this would be welcomed.
