BBK welcome aboard ... seems my car ak1234 is almost the exact same car BRG / Saddle Interior ... with exception of a few details .... best of luck.

... the goal was to replace the existing pump with an exact replacement.  So with that in mind I checked the specs on a 1988 Ford Mustang 5.0L EFI motor and came up with 95LPH then researched only 52MM diameter pumps which fit in the original bracket195mm  long with the correct fittings on each end ... only one BOSCH pump out of the 2 still made cross references correctly.  I just couldnt come to terms with altering the existing mount.  They did a great job silencing it from noise and vibration ... unlike the other Fords in the USA ... but it all work out well.   The route of the failure was the gasoline sitting in the pumps since 2006.  I guess now the gas goes bad after a short period of time.

...One thing I can surely tell you is there is an early black MKIV .. I;m thinking 1983 which was Eric Clapton's car originally.  I happen to stroll into a antique car shop in Nyack NY around 1990 and met him and the car shop owner and he was putting the car up for sale.  So this could be the car ... maybe JB and or Rick could confirm which car was EC's.

AK1131 .. just to aid you in your project the existing fuel line is 1/4 id / 3/8 od and you looking to upgrade to 1/2 od ?  This shouldnt be too hard especially if you continue using copper tube.  1/2 od is refrigeration tubing and soft enough to pull thru the path you require.

Gents,

I had the same problem with ak1234 and back in 2003 with only 8000 miles on her ... I emailed John Owens @ AC Cars in Malta and he sent me 12 step instructions on how the factory recommended the rear axle gets assembled.  At that time I had also purchased parts and he sent me a pack of shims in various increments to properly shim the tapered bearing.  If any of you would like I can email you the 12 pages.

But now you have me thinking about the bolt AGAIN and I might just take her apart and check that again.  One thing I did find is there is a grease fitting on top of the carrier assembly to grease these bearings.  My problem originated from the rear bearings having NO GREASE ... so the bearing failed wore the shim and I was feeling a shimmy like as if the car had a Detroit Locker in the rear.  The NO GREASE thing got me thinking so I put it up on the lift and found this was the case on most of the car.

Email me if you would like the 12 page STEP by STEP Factory assembly.

... good to know .. in 28 years in the Pipefitting Industry that would be a first ... great idea I must say ... only seen copper coated stainless once before. Now I know I can use SWADGELOCK fittings and SS braided hose ... excellent.

   Thanks JB and MKIV.

.... the line on my 88 EFI is 1/4 ID ... what concerns me is the use of copper which doesn't normally hold up well to vibration.

AK1131 ...I here you ... but that is the primary reason I sold my Shelby... a real snooty bunch.  My Insurance Co wanted to register the car as a replica ... I had to send them to this site and give them the title.

One thing this car has that the originals, replicas and continuation Cars ... is the fine Coach Work with regards to detail and thought process that went into these cars.

So that's good to know .. the car in England is an AC COBRA MKIV ... we will just stick with that to piss of the other Cobra Owners next time I;m at a show.

I couldn't tell you but maybe one of the other members who were involved in the original manufacturing might.  I would venture to guess it doesn't because these cars evolved into EFI in 1987 ... my 1988 has EFI and just this weekend after many months of searching for the original fuel pump it arrived Friday and saturday was the first time the car ran in 7 years.

I also have plans for IR EFI on my Pantera .. i had the intake made.

...the pump was seized ... i removed it took it apart and you can see it was in one position for a long time ... so I put it back together and it works ..but I;m not comfortable with re crimping the pump with RFI where it runs at a high pressure ... so a new pump is in order.

OK ... I know its been a while but I made progress.  The ground to the solenoid mounting bolt was loose which prevented the motor from turning over, I replaced the existing LUCAS 4ST 4 terminal solenoid with a std ford part and now the motor turns over but still don't start ..no fuel the pump gets power when I turn the key .. but the pump doesn't engage.  So I removed the pump Bosch Part # 9 580 810 006 which seems to cross reference to a 9 580 254 984 ... and now I will go to the Auto Parts store and get the new pump.
