Has anyone been following recent auctions for MK IV cars that have sold? I want to increase the insurance on mine and the agent said that I need to come up with some indication that the value has increased, such as recent auction results. If anyone has this info, please post it. USA auction results would be best as the company, American Collectors, is in the US. Thanks.

Not a direct answer to your question, but it's rare enough to be highlighted : a '87 mkIV will be auctioned by Artcurial on sunday, october 20th , on the Champs Elysées ....

Estimation is k€70-80, which seems quite low... Maybe the fact that the car has an english registration is a part of explaination. We will see !
Edited : for potential buyers, the car is lhd and US sourced, but has a UK registration...

You might want to check with Streetside Classics at the link below as it seems that they recently sold a Mk.IV subject of discussion at the other ACOC forum link shown. Hopefully they would be willing to disclose the sale price or give you some indication that you could use.

On the Hagerty Insurance website they show an average value of $83,775 for a 1985 MKIV.
visit Haghttp://www.hagerty.com/valuationtools/HVT/VehicleSearch/Report?vc=1359385
I emailed the owner of the MKIV that reportedly just sold and ask for the purchase price.

Thanks. That Hagerty site will be helpful. Please let me know if you find out the sale price of the car that just sold.

The figure of USD 83,775 seems to apply to a 'condition 3' car with prices for top notch cars being significantly higher. Also very interesting to see the steep rise in prices between April and August 2012, a phenomenon that was also noted and discussed in this forum:http://www.acownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2255.

The dealer told me the selling price was over $100,000.00 but would not give me an exact number. I have not heard from the previous owner.

John,
Just went through the process with my Mk IV. In addition to the Hagarty values by condition: Fair ($66,500), Good ($84,000), Excellent ($97,000), and Concours ($119,000); I added a spread sheet summarizing the asking price and confirmed sale prices for 10 MK IVs. Between 2011 and 2013 asking prices for Mk IV’s averaged $99,670 (N=10) and sale prices averaged $94,095 (N=8). Of those sold in 2012-2013 the average asking price was $105,749 (N=8) and sale price averaged $97,400 (N=5). PM me if you would like the table containing all the info (dates, description, website/seller info, etc.). I’d post it here but people tend to hold their cards close to their chest when they start talking about money. If the group is interested I would be happy to add any additional data sent to me and post the whole thing here. The cars are identifiable, as are some of the previous owners, but the latter can be removed.

The previous owner of AKL 1472 reply by email to me stating the car dealership received $120,000.00 for his MKIV..[:)]

This MKIV was finally sold for €81,826 (£68,000)... The car was clean, but not pristine, and totally stock...

You're right ! I've seen this ad dozen times , and didn't make the connection with the Artcurial car... What a moron ! Strangely, it was sold the exact price of the ad ?!? But with vat & taxes included...
