Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Crunched my door
« on: May 02, 2017, 22:45:35 »
The guys at the Panel Shop at Automotive Restorations in Stratford, CT can surely make a new door for you.  They're not as close as you'd like but their work is world class and the new door will be perfect.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / BEX 266

It was a steal.  I was at the auction and, apart from some interior details, the car was very nice.  The RM and Bonhams auctions were pretty lackluster.  It could be that prices are finally readjusting, which is good news for those of us who are trying to buy cars.

Hi Keith.  BEX274 is not my car.  Mine is BEX277 which, I do not believe appeared in the register until I bought it.  Anyway, when I heard about BEX274 I thought it would be good to get any details as I saw that E.G. Wilcox was the only name in the register associated with the car.  I'll let you know if I get any pictures.

Regardless, it's all moot now anyway.  I just checked with ARI and the deal went through earlier this week.  The car will soon be off to France.

Let me clarify.  The step son of the owner of ARI bought the car after the person who was having it restored died so the AC remained at ARI.  He was going to continue the restoration but has decided to get out of the car.  It was for sale in PA about 8 years ago by the original owner and I thought about buying it as AC Bristols were very hard to find then and I considered a restoration project.  Steve Kursh was braver than I and bought it and took it to Automotive Restorations.  Work stopped when he died a couple years ago.  The original engine is, I believe, still with the car as it was there when Steve bought it. For whatever reason it was decided to have another rebuilt. 200,000 is a steep price for a project but at something less, it's a very worthwhile project.

If it's still for sale, there's a partially restored car at Automotive Restorations in Stratford, CT.  It is a complete car and the work that has been done on it is quite good.  I know the car well and knew the owner, who died half way through the restoration which is why it is for sale.  Last I heard they were putting together a deal to sell it to someone in France but I don't know if it went through.  The car is still on their site.  automotiverestorations.com

Hi Anthony,

I was able to make a suitable cylinder head wrench by heating a spanner with a welding torch and "re-shaping" it.  However, there's nothing like the real thing.  Please put me down for one from your next batch.  Thank you for your efforts.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Tires
« on: September 14, 2012, 18:05:59 »
Thank you Keith and Laurence.  I appreciate the advice.  While I like 16" wheels, I'd rather not go through the expense of getting new wheels unless absolutely necessary.  So, it would be good to hear about some 15" tires that work as well.

Can anyone confirm Laurence's comment about D-2 emgines having a stronger bottom end?

Thank you for the information.  I checked with Blockley and they recommend either 550x15 or 165VR15 for a radial.  Does anyone have any experience with either of these tires on an Ace?

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Ace Bristol tires
« on: September 14, 2006, 16:41:56 »
Dear Keith,

Thanks very much for the info.  It is very helpful.  I have a set of 16" wheels, although they need to be restored.  I know that previously available tires fouled the rear wheel arches on Aces.  Are you sure there is no problem with the 165's.
