Hi I have a copy of Road and Track magazine 1962. California publication.

It has a road test of the AC Cobra with Test and spec data page.

It is one of an few oddments in my collection of Motor Sport Mags from the 50's and 60's.

If any AC Cobra owner would like it, then EMail me and for the cost of postage its yours.

Damn just nearly at home after a nice ling drive and the head gasket has gone and blown again.

So decision made, not going to waste anymore time money on the engine, It looks like my old Triumph engine will be put into service after all. Just going to rebuild it and fit with OD box.

So anyone out there want a good head, (It is the block face that shot), a set of fully rebuilt Carbs, a rebuilt only a fortnight ago starter, a rebuilt approx 3 months ago dynamo, a gearbox in excellent condition, or even an engine for rebuild with excellent bottom end, of even the lot then get in touch.

I will be pulling it all out soon and will document the progress of the triumph conversion in due course.

   Cheers  G

Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / 2 Litre Saloon 70th anniversary?
« on: March 04, 2016, 09:28:27 »
Hi

I see in Action that Mike in his belief is suggesting that this years national is also the 70th anniversary of the saloon as as such should be celebrated by having a bigger line up of saloons there.

Now whilst I applaud his desire to see more 2 litre saloons at the national, as these do seem to be much maligned by the classic car press and dare I say it not fully supported by ACOC and as Mike said in a recent communication with me, the club has celebrated various anniversaries of the Ace (which is quite a pleasant car) no club support for the anniversary of saloon seems to be forthcoming. It was after a mainstay of AC and without it maybe the Ace and Cobra would never have seen the light of day.

However, back to my main point. It is clear that the whilst 1946 was indeed the year the prototype chassis was made and registered, it was in fact clothed in an earlier open tourer body. The saloon did not come to fruition until 1947 (I think Oct 47 being one of the first production cars). So my point is perhaps the ACOC council would in fact get behind the 2 litre for next years national, wherever that may be, even pushing a bit into the classic car press about it. I shall be doing my bit by contact some of the magazines I subscribe to with a little write up about the Saloon (assuming they deem the saloon worthy of mention, yes I know sour gripes  No! just fed up with so called journalist calling them stodgy post war examples of cars, whilst loving the Healy and Allard of a similar period and similar looks).

Anyway I love the 2 litre, and people who meet m,e ans see the car seem to appreciate it, even at the London New Years parade many numbers of people wanted to photograph it and even sit in it, many saying they did know of AC but knew the Cobra.

Lets give the saloon it rightful celebration of its 70th with the clubs support. I am happy to help in some way (not sure how useful I'll be but would give it a go).

Cheers.  Now must get back to getting the engine out of the ol girl as I am taking her to France in 3 weeks and then to Southwold in Suffolk in April.

AC Weller Engine / Front oil seal, done in engine bay at last!
« on: February 23, 2016, 12:24:20 »
So plan for next week is to pop out engine (really is it going to be that easy!!) Going to take rad and nose off so engine can come out with head (especially as just done head). I am assured it is fairly easy.

Then get that dam front pulley off, tried it from under car with a 15 inch bar welded to pulley and me hanging on it did nothing. So thought I may as well take engine out to get to it properly and whilst there change the flywheel rubbers as  it is some 30 years since last done.

All sounds easy, but I am sure there are going to be some knocked knuckles and light cursing before all done.

Got some freeze spray and my blow torch to help release the thread on the front pulley to see if that helps.

If anyone has done this before on a 2 Litre saloon let me know if there any pitfalls that I cannot see yet.

   Cheers  Gary

Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / Moss Rear axle for sale small fee.
« on: February 14, 2016, 15:37:15 »
Hi I have in my collection of parts a Moss rear axle.  I am having a tidy up in the garage and will need to clear it out. So if it is of use to anyone let me know and for a small fee it is yours.

I will put a pic on later, it appear to be in fairly good condition with hardly any play in it.

   Cheers  Gary

General Forum / Why oh Why
« on: February 06, 2016, 09:23:41 »
Indeed why does the Club and or Action Mag  keep publishing a parts list that is out of date. Why do the spares coordinators keep the list upto date, surely Terry should check before publishing it with a Jan 2016 date. It is a cost to the club that is unnecessary, it must annoy the spares coordinators getting calls for items that no longer exist (especially in the AC Barn) and surely members will give up checking for spares if they are not available. ( I know that most of the 2 litre spares showing as in the barn are in my garage as I bought them last year).

Why not put the spares on a spreadsheet and add it to this forum and then it is just a simple job for the relevant coordinator/seller  of the part to add or delete an item it as they come and go.

   Cheers  Gary

ACOC News and Events / AC auto jumble in Feb
« on: January 21, 2016, 09:37:10 »
Hi I have seen in the last Action that there is an auto jumble in Feb and was just wondering what sort of bits and bobs are available at the auto jumble for AC 2 litres. Not sure what the Thames Ditton spares thingy is or was, as fairly new to Ac ownership.

   Cheers for any info.

AC Weller Engine / Cold air box and air filter for triple SU's
« on: January 07, 2016, 18:07:46 »
Hi ya

Now carbs all sorted and engine running well, I've decided to make a cold air box with an improved single cone filter to replace the 3 wire mesh air filters (not really sure what they filter as very poor at it). I have started making it and will put some pics on here soon. It should allow much better filtering of dust particles and give a cold/cooler air feed to carbs improving running.

   Any thoughts.

   Cheers  Gary

AC Weller Engine / Carbs Back from rebuild and fitted.
« on: December 04, 2015, 13:33:34 »
So while I am buggering about trying to get cylinder head off and I have carbs off anyway, thought I'd get them rebuilt so off they go to G W Carbs a chap called Glenn who ha been doing SU for a long time now, he does a lot for the Mini Cooper boys and MG's.

Found one has a leaky float (its got fuel in it) 2 of the carbs flood out into the carb throat when parked up, and play in 2 of the carbs spindles. Still not bad for 66 years old.

I am going to go to 1 1/4 in the long term once I find 3 bodies and dashpots etc. as these will take my float chambers and thermo carb fitting as per 1 1/8. Glenn is also going to keep an eye out for me for some bodies etc. Then get them rebuilt make adaptors and all good, keep the originals in a box for any future owner.

So they should be back by Xmas all nice and rebuilt and shiny.

   Cheers  G
