Vince, that looks the job, many thanks for the photos. If its off AE 28, then its very appropriate, ie only 7 cars after mine!

Well, thanks to one member I'm 50% there, ie I have one badge!

On perhaps a different tack, would there be any interest for badges if I could get proper replicas cast? Clearly to do a one off is expensive but divide that by 4, 6, 8, 10 or whatever makes it much more reasonable.

Keith, think it was a TR 4 cyl engine, like in the 2/3/4, but same end result.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / AEX 160 to auction April 23

Tim, how could we forget BEX 1054.....but I was talking AC engined cars which have always been a bit under the price radar for the Bristols.

The point about the MM retrospective is interesting because as many will know there are a lot of, sometimes quite ordinary, or totally obscure, cars eligible. This list shows 173 makes and 902 models!!!

So theres quite a choice around... In UK terms things like early TR2/3, MGA etc all qualify, so there are a lot cheaper ways of getting an eligible car; however getting an entry is another matter. Its worth just glancing down the list to see how many makes are there you've never heard of! A Picon, a Platé, a Pulidori just in part of one section, for example...

There is at least one Ace I know of in this year's event, Paolo Pedersoli in AEX 100, a car which originally was sold to Canada. Good luck to him in the event.

That has to be the highest AC engined Ace price I have seen, at least at auction (in UK money c. £280k). Can't see that being achieved in Europe, although it was a nice car!

Nice programme, shame about the engine, but great end result

Thanks Barry, at least your copy of the card is better than my photo, of the print in the book, taken from the card!! Yes its a very evocative painting.
You're right, the painting must be somewhere, but lord knows where, maybe with some relative of JG I guess. Have had a bit of a look at that area, in terms of family trees, but its very unclear frankly.
Maybe someone will come up with the origin of the card, if nothing else.....
Am just trying to get the best quality image I can in order to make a poster type print.

Jim, not seen badges like those before, maybe from something prewar? Early photos of my Ace, AE01, show the usual flatter plated style; yours look like they are 4-5mm proud, and in brass or bronze, AlexG

Sold for:

BEX 222 did not sell, perhaps buyers were nervous about this last sentance in Bonhams desrciption - " It should be noted that there is another AC Ace in Denmark with same chassis number"
