Title: COBRA: The Story of an Icon
Post by: Spantik on June 08, 2013, 23:42:26
Just received copy 226/289 of the book authored by Trevor Legate and Kay Hafner. Both did a great job and so many pictures, much of are new to me, illustrate this wonderful book. Thanks Trevor and Kay for sharing your passion with all of us.

Guess which copy nikbj got? LOL [;)]
This is a damn fine book, and so very rare! I just wish I could have been in Germany to see the 50th Anniversary gathering for real.

Hi Nik, 289/289 or 1/289? I did not know that this was a numbered edition... So Trevor and Kay can start with the 427 issue ;-)

I think Trev might like a small break before embarking on the 427 issue!!!

Well done Nik. Who got the book 62/289 ?

No idea, nor 50/289. If I could have afforded 2, I would have asked for 21 & 31 as 2131 was Dad`s Cobra chassis number!

#21 has arrived in the middle of the USA!
Trevor, I like the idea of a printed cover rather than a dust cover that just gets torn :-)

My tame(ish) designer Jackie and moi wanted to give it a more modern, cleaner look and we both agreed that d-j's get tatty very quickly. They are nice in theory but prone to damage - so last year!

I shall now return to my darkened room and continue the long road to recovery.....forward any messages to my butler....

@Peter : worst of both worlds [:o)] ? I'd prefer a german name on a french girl than the contrary (just kiddin'... even if Angela M is a bit "panzer designed" [:D] !)

not the right place, I know, but I suppose the 427 book will follow... it would be great, Trevor, that a real place would be made for the MKIV in this book [;)] (even though I know you already talked about MKIVs in your previous books) !

The book started life as a record of the 50th meeting in Germany last year - and then it grew. Hence the 'delays'.

I am always happy to include the MkIV in the history of the model(s) but you might note I am co-author of this book, so genuine cars only this time!! However, a small beer if you can spot the replica that I snuck in there. Excluding around eight of the Cobras in the Shelby Cup of course :) And a larger beer if you can spot the car that is not in the book (clue: Revival)

But that would mean having to remove it from it`s hermitically sealed, temperature & humidity controlled display case! [;)]

nope... haven't read the book yet, but I assume I see A98 in the photo album at the end of the book [;)]

ACs are made for being driven .....  not for sitting in museums

I can just imagine a future archealogical dig discovering Nik's hermetically sealed motoring library. That should confuse them!

A98 is in there - and was not part of the actual race

Aarghh. Busted! OK, I`m getting it out now as we speak!

Right. I now know which one is missing! I think it`s worth more than a large beer to leave it at knowing! [8)]

The Jackie Skelton photo of Hawk Cars` 'Executor' should win me a small beer though.
Plus, the 'Ken Miles' Cobra that Bob Bondurant was driving around at the Revival isn`t in there... [;)]

I decree that Nik wins all the beer and the topic is closed :) Which makes my legal team v happy. As for listing other Cobras that are not in the book, you'd make a good book reviwer for a well-known UK classic car-based mag!

   Cheers for the beers... hic![xx(]
