I need advice please. The car I am considering buying is a 1985 with a little over 5,000 miles. It's very original, always garaged and in near perfect condition. What have others sold for recently in the USA? It's black /black, and not a lightweight.
Thanks!

I bought my 1987 red/black w/4000 mile in showroom cond. here on Maui for 55k....
I think I got a very fair price......black one in Dupont Registry is asking 70k...so 50k is great and 60k is market IMO.........whatever you will pay and he will accept in the final price..........start low!...you can alwasy go up.......gregg

[8D]My MKIV is a 1986. When I bought the car in 2/05 from the original owner, the car had 634 original miles. The 302 engine had been removed modified and re-installed with a output of 350hp. This is a carb engine and the modification was very attractive in appearance. I paid quiet bit for my car but think it is worth the price. I think there are two for sale around 100K. Hopefully this is were the cars are going. Considering the quality and rarity, what you and the seller feel is fair, is fair.
This applies to the US market. I am told that the cars trade higher in Europe.

Thank you for your input.

I bought mine in the summer of 2005 for $55K. It was modified by Roush Special Vehicles early in its life and had the original 302 replaced with an all aluminum 351. I was fortunate to have been able to obtain much of the paperwork (copies) from Roush which documents much of the work done to the car. The car was virtually disassembled by Roush and reassembled with many trick components. I like to think I got a good deal as the seller was asking north of $70K when I talked him down. I don't think these cars are coming down in price any time soon and given the price of aluminum bodied kit cars are a tremendous bargain in my opinion. I feel that anything around $70K USD for a nice, low mileage car is about right in the USA right now. European and English cars seem to have much higher asking prices. Just my two cents.
