Bill,
The bag that I posted pictures of earlier in this thread is essentially 4" x 4" x 12" long, with a handle on the top, a belt buckle arrangement to close the bag, and a reinforcement riveted in the bottom.  Note the ends have rounded tops.

The handle is leather, 6-1/2" long and 11/16" wide.  Sorry, but I did not measure the thickness of the leather.  The handle strap is riveted, with 5-3/4" between rivets.

The buckle is fastened to a piece of leather measuring 1-3/8" long by 1/2" wide.  The tongue which is secured in the buckle is 3-1/2" long by 1/2" wide. The buckle itself measures 11/16" by 13/16".

Hope this gives you something to go by.

I need to post a correction to the photos shown above.

The tool bag made of somewhat brownish material is actually from Charlie Wise's 1958 Ace Bristol.  Those photos were taken by Paul Staiger, which is why there is a mixup in the identification of late model 2.6 versus BEX.  Paul (2.6) took the pictures of Charlie's tool bag (BEX) while on a visit to Charlie's house last spring.  Hand in the picture is Paul's.

These pictures have been passed on from owner to owner, hence a mixup in identification.

Keith,

   Regarding your note:

History, yes!  I have a number of pictures and race results to post and upcoming holiday should give me time at the computer to post.

Restoration, not so fast. [:)]   I have acquired most of the needed parts, but actual work on the car not started.  I am selling another car to provide space in my garage.  I need to find a source for body panels and Bristol engine.

Knowing that population and maybe the known history of some of the cars might narrow down the potential field of cars.

I checked and found a Peter Kunkle in So. Cal. but he appears to be too young to be the Pete Kunkle mentioned in the ad.

It has been documented the Ace in question was purchased by Pellandini as a Used Car, so no use chasing down factory documents.  I have never been able to find any references as to where he found it or who he purchased it from.

Keith,

Thanks for the note and comments.

I have recently uncovered some incredible photos of BEX239 and I have been in contact with Gordon Crowder's family and they promised to go through family photos.  I have been overwhelmed with information but I still have leads to chase down.  I have to gather things together before reporting on BEX239.  Gordon's racing also intertwines with Bill Love as they had some sort of a partnership and competed together at Sebring in 1958 in Bill's car.

   Cheers, Bert

Yes, it looks like they are Webers.  These pictures may clarify.

I am including another photo that shows a closeup of the Mallory distributor also.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Where to get Ace flat windshield?
« on: June 05, 2015, 06:19:32 »
I had Chris ship out a windscreen to California and the shipping wasn't objectionable.  I did this over 10 years ago, so I forgot how much it was.  It would pay to check with him.  His product is excellent.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Ace curved windscreen availibility

Can confirm fine craftmanship by Mr Glover.  His windscreen has been on my Kirkham 289 FIA for some 12 or 13 years.  Arrived in a wooden crate here in California in perfect condition.

Regarding Keith's comment on proper way to fit the screen, I called Cris to confirm any critical issues prior to initial fitment and he advised to double check distance between side posts.  The windscreen should just slide into place between the posts without force, not too tight, not too loose.  [:)]  The fit on my car was perfect without any "adjustments" needed.

Glad you were successful.  I checked my photos and they are not very helpful (nor are they digital).

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Dash leather

Roger,
I have installed new leather on a Cobra dashboard and I did not use steam.  I used leather that was fairly thin, but it had not been skived.  My leather was quite supple.  I have seen some skived leather that resembled parchment so I can understand your predicament.  I was able to form it around the edges and the drop center of the dash quite easily with the supple leather.  Since the leather will shrink over time, I did not stretch the leather.  I took some pictures, I will see if I can find them and post them.  I hope this helps.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Linda Scott racing Bill Love's Ace
« on: November 26, 2015, 02:07:49 »
Today I was researching photos and old magazines for images of my Ace and I ran into this old article on female racers.  The article is in the Fall 1958 edition of Sports Car Quarterly.  It was a Southern California publication, so obviously they would have photos of Southern California cars.  And with the article featuring women, Shelby and Reventlow had to be mentioned.

It was really nice to see an Ace prominently featured!  Of course, not just any Ace, but Bill Love's Ace!  Bill was well known as being the guy that could give the Corvettes a hard time on the race track and he was a consistent winner.

This Ace is back in the UK undergoing restoration and I know that Tim Isles is searching for Linda Scott, but in the meantime maybe a few photos will suffice.
