On behalf of all who attended the Show on Sunday I would like to extend a hearty vote of thanks to Steve and his family for doing us proud providing refreshments throughout the long hot day (yes, the weather was good [8D]). We are lucky to have in Steve someone willing to go to the time, trouble and EXPENSE of providing these niceties, and for generally being on hand to smooth things along. I, for one, appreciate his efforts.
Thanks, Steve, for a very enjoyable day.
-
Just to second all the above. (You beat me to it as I've be away from the computerizator for a few days). I should also like to extend my sincere thanks for allowing a worthless individual of ill-repute (failed rally driver) access to an expensive piece of machinery in the shape of an FIA Shelby Cobra - and not even hitting me when I brought it back on the end of a rope. Still my exhaustive research confirms that you cannot run a Cobra on fresh air alone...
And well done for arranging the sunshine.
-
Thanks to the 27 cars we had on the strip - the drag up the runway was awesome . The Golden orb was present all day - Trevor arrived as and completed his runs in our Shelby - His towing back was to reduce our carbon impact on the day [;)]. The sound of all those cars firing up to go out was fab - More days planned for the future -photos to follow , Thanks again to all who attended your support makes a great event .
-
Hi Steve,
I want to thank you for all of your hard work at Wings and Wheels last weekend. We had a fantastic day and the whole atmosphere was great.
For me the best bit was my last run of the day which was a good old fashioned drag race against you, we even had a chap to drop the flag and run as we smoked the tyres [:D].
A great day - Thank you.
John and Dee.
PS: Apparently there was an air show on at the same time.
-
Another great day Steve. Many thanks for inviting the Aceca. It ran like a dream with with 170kph showing and oodles more to go but as I was approaching red on the rev meter decided that was okay for my first outing.
Any advise on the top end performance for a 2.6 Stage 4
Thanks again Steve
Ian

Ian,
I have just got my Aceca Dyno'd running a 2.6 with iron head and triple SU 1 1/2inch. We got 143BHP (at flywheel) at 4200 RPM (could not go higher new engine), my cam is road /race, max power at 5200 so I'm looking at 160BHP+. Also I have race Healey pistons.
The car has a 4 speed CR gearbox was over 102MPH on the rolling road. So I would say my top end is around 120MPH. I think it will be down to aerodynamics at that point.
Sounds like W&W was a great day out, well done Steve, does anyone have any pictures. Anyone going to the goodwood revival.
John.
-
There was an Air Show???? Now he tells me.....
-
Hi Trevor,
With your recent track record of running out of fuel it's probably a good job you were only driving and not piloting at the event [:D].
Regarding Goodwood, yes Dee and I will be there for the three days. On the Friday we will be dressed in Brooklands Motor Co overalls, but I don't suggest anyone asks us to work on their cars.
John.

A big thanks to Steve (the Pied Piper of everything AC) and his family for running a great Cobra day out at Wing and Wheels. He seems to get more AC's out in one place than anyone else these days. We needed him years ago! Looking forward to the next event Steve is running. The initial plan was that he and I were intending to do some wing walking but they could not land the cargo plain.
-
Mark it wasnt the problem with the cargo plane landing -it was getting it airborne - my request to extend the runway is being considered for next year
-
Obviously Steve ate all the pies and drank (almost) all the Grolsch.
I frequently go a long way to observe a coven of Cobras (or whatever the collective term is) but I'd go a lot further to see them in action at full blat. It looked and sounded pretty impressive from where I was and no doubt was equally impressive from the outside. Anyone got a long strip of tarmac in their back garden...?
-
The great one at work...........or should that be at play ?
Master you have so much to teach us[;)]

Another photo courtesy of Mr. A.C. Heritage.
Of course the car would probably look better in black [^]
-
But black cars don't go any faster. I'll drive anything - no bias here.
Groping for another cog whist trying to reach the pedals is always jolly hard work - or did I just notice the fuel gauge...? However, that was the ruination of an expensive hair-do!!
Of course, Mr. Cobham, you should really paint your car white in order to save all that valuable drinking time you spend running over the bodywork with a fluffy duster. Just an observation!

I will try and post some photo`s

Great pics thanks for posting them - Aaron the throwaway camra we were using may have picked up some tyre burnout debris - im not sure if it had a flash leave alone a sensor ! Trevor -thank you for the explanation of your fuel saga ,thankfully you didnt bag the lone tree with our car [;)]
-
I was saving the whole tree-hitting/Ken Miles can do it/Sebring/sun-in-my-eyes excuse for next time (note the subtle hint...next time...I've been corrupted by the power.)
Mind you, trees on the Dunsfold runway are noteable by their absence. If there was one, I'd have bagged the blighter!

Steve, great pics for a throw away camera,I think I will ditch my 35 mm slr and start using throw away camera`s myself,it will work out a hell of alot cheaper than buying senor cleaning fluid and senor cleaning swabs ,

Trevor,I did have a photo of you in the fuel less cobra being towed back, the look on you face said it all, unfortunatley I deleted it

Captain Chaos here - somebody call? Lady L rather enjoyed observing all the aircraft last year and has expressed an intent to return, but sadly much depends on our ability to grab a late holiday. Naturally I'd also be delighted to rock up, cr*p car parking allowing...anyone afford a can of petrolium this year..? Anyone want to sell me a Cobra for the weekend - provided you buy it back Monday! One careful owner, 5 miles on the clock.... :-)

5MPG??? Yes, very careful, that one owner!
-
Hi Captain,
It would be good to see you at the event again next month as your mastery of the automobile is always a master class for many of us. However, forgive me if I'm wrong but I don't remember you going as far as 5 miles last year, 5 minutes yes, maybe.
Hope to see you there.
John.
-
OK I was planning a lap of honour......
(I do hope I didn't detect a note of sarcasm in your post Captain Cobham..? No, obviously not)

My cheque will be in the post to you today.
Looking forward to it. I guess I should start cleaning the car now[;)]

If I can get that FIA down the runway again, I'll 'ave 'im for brekkie (naturally)
Actually, nobody times those runs do they??! All done very sedately and in the best possible taste. No hooligans in the ACOC!

Trev
You've missed the point ! The Idea is to exercise the car .... not the guys pushing it back to the paddock.
Now can we try again ?? and take it more seriously this time....
Do not collect £200 .... Go direct to the nearest Gas station for
100 + Octane.

FYI for any Wings and Wheels "newbie's",
For most of the last two weeks the weather has been wet in Surrey and Dunsfold does not drain well. Steve G and his team do a great job of getting us a good location at the event and hopefully once again we will be parking on concrete. But just a word of advise, maybe put some wet weather shoes in your car and don't take any short cuts across the grass in your car because the ground can quickly turn to bog. Last year was a great day and the forecast for Sunday has got better through the week (so far).
http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/dayforecast.asp?zipcode=Dunsfold&day=3
I notice on other forums, car clubs that were parked on grass last year are already asking what happens if their cars sink down to the axles.
See you on Sunday - John.
-
You must have taken that shot of me just before I started screaming - stone me vicar, but that runway was wet and when I say those dry weather race tyres were a tad wayward at warp speed.....grip - what grip?? I think my first run was more of a slalom than a straight blat. But we Brits are made of stern stuff and everyone kept it pointing in the right direction (how, I have no idea). Respect to all.
A worrying misfire made me decide to return to the paddock rather than risk a final run in the afternoon, just in case I left a load of internal engine components the whole length of Dunsfold (it did sound rough, but just a flooding Weber) It was then pointed out that the n/s front tyre was about 50% deflated! My lucky day I guess. Hate to consider the consequences of a blow-out somewhere north of 100mph. I think the expression is: Wizard Prang. Anyhoo, MANY thanks once more to Steve et al for a somewhat unforgettable day out (!) and for foolishly entrusting his valuable - and highly desirable - toy to me once more. Cheers Steve - you make 'em and I'll break 'em.

Mr. Steve Clark screaming at me to get 'my' slow old FIA out of his way, unless I'm much mistook....
and I clocked that black Ultima in the background doing its run while I was on the return road. Coo - didn't half shift! I was waiting for it to go airborne....
For me, the highlight (worth the price of admission+) was that there Typhoon Eurofighter with a sound that just went straight through you - Big Boys Toys.
