Ace - rubber around front inner guards
« on: January 31, 2017, 21:49:09 »
I have seen, but not inherited, a rubber section around the curved apperture of the inner guards where the transverse spring passes on its way to the wheels.
Perhaps I saw it in a picture, but I have trolled through my entire AC library without success.
I do not even have the holes where the pop rivets may have gone because new inner guards were fabricated thirty years ago!
Do I imagine the rubber to be in two sections; is it fastened to the outside of the inner guards and what is its dimensions?
Any help would be much appreciated.
   Regards
   Bill Griffiths.

Scanned through my pictorial library and found a few pictures
showing the rubber sheet riveted to the outside of the inner wing
to keep the engine bay a little cleaner.

I will fire a few pictures to you later today.  None of the pictures give close up view but should help as a guide .

The pictures  will be of the following Ace Bristol's :
   BEX487,  BEX489, AEX/BEX ????,  BEX1003  and  BEX1186.

Maybe the owner of one of these can help with better more accurate data. [?]

Have you considered the use of single edge brush strips which can be purchased in different brush lengths which are held in an extruded aluminium strip so can be cut to length & riveted to each side of the panel, this allows the suspension & track rods to move with the brushes closing each side of the arms, whereas rubber strips will always have gaps!

I like the brush idea, not terribly 'period' looking, but sounds very practical.

Check out:   top picture Page 29 of Rinsey Mills
   "Original Ace & Aceca"..[;)]
Picture and caption makes reference to the rubber sheet attached by pop riveted aluminium strips to each of the inner wings through which the transverse leaf spring passes.
    Clean picture confirming  rivet locations.

Interesting pictures, thanks.

Should the brake hoses be attached to the springs? Will have to check on mine where (if??) they are attached...

I am restoring BEX1002.  I have lots of pictures of the inner panels and the rubber skirts that came with the car as well as the repaired/resurrected assembly.  My skirts were not riveted to the inner panel, but were, and now are, attached with screws. If you send me an email address (tusherarch@att.net), I'll send you some photos.

Would like to see a few photos so I can make up a set for BEX333.
Can you either email me details some time or get Nik to post a few pictures with dimensions.
The wonders of the Internet [;)]  Lets hope more members start using  The Club Forum, the information is out there, just have to ask.
Last but not least a quick Thank You to Nik for posting pictures on behalf of many members..[:)]...appreciated.

Seems to be a lot of agonising regarding a non factory feature on the Aceca but was added by individual owners over the years, see Autosport 12/1/62. Do your own thing, old tyre inner tubes seem popular!
