A one-off example by Frua, a car I've never seen before but one can definitely see outlines of the future AC 428....

   1957 Maserati 3500GT Frua Spyder
   Chassis Number: AM101.268
   One-Off Example!

The 3500 GT debuted at the Geneva show in March 1957 and it would be the first real series-produced Maserati, remaining in production through several generations and model names until 1970. Its twin-plug ignition immediately betrayed the racing origin of this high performance six although it was completely redesigned, in fact twice, to make it both more easily maintainable by non-racing mechanics and more economical to build.

The dual overhead camshafts operated the valves through bucket followers with shim adjustment in preference to the screw-type adjustment favored on the racing engines. Both the cylinder block and the head were cast in light alloy with iron cylinder sleeves. Seven main bearings ensured reliability. This 1957 Maserati Frua Spider was purchased by Mr. Alfredo Brener’s collection of exceptional Maseratis several years ago. It had been restored in Britain for a previous owner in its original color of light yellow and retains its original green interior.

428 Frua Forum / AC 428s in the States & Canada ?
« on: August 25, 2015, 20:28:10 »
Hi Kelly thanks for replying.

First off assuming you're unfamiliar with the AC 428 Frua, perhaps when you get a few moments could you possibly have a quick look at the "AC 428 Frua Register and Archive" which I put together starting in about 2007/8 and more less finishing in 2011 as per the link below....

   http://acfrua428.activeboard.com/

Whilst quite a few of the cars on this side of the pond have been traced and the Register is more or less up to date as of about a year/ 18 months ago, for some reason there's always been very little information about the cars in the States (and Canada if there are any ?) and why unfortunately it's nearly always well out of date.

This is why I wondered, in order to try and keep the Register as up to date as possible, that in the course of your presumably daily activities of buying and selling Aces etc. (?) you've ever come across or heard of any whether up for sale at auction or simply in passing ? If you haven't not a problem but perhaps if you ever do hear of one or more in the future, especially if it's up for sale, could you possibly post something about it into this Frua forum ?

Any thoughts or suggestions much appreciated....

   Thanks again

   Paul

428 Frua Forum / Is this correct....?

Is this correct as I haven't heard of it before....?

   1969 AC 428 Fastback Coupe

We could call this car a "hybrid", but certainly not by the modern definition. Given that this Frua-bodied car was designed in Italy, it's chassis built in Britain, and it's engine forged in the US, we can't think of a more appealing setup. The long-embraced tradition of European cars fitted with American iron is a popular one, with cars like the Iso Grifo, DeTomaso Pantera, Dual-Ghia and Facel Vega HK500 benefitting from this type of arrangement. This car was born out of sheer necessity after the 80 rolling chassis already completed by AC Cars intended for use as Cobra units were no longer able to be imported into the US due to changing safety regs. Rather ingeniously, AC sent these cars off to Frua of Italy for fitment with either a fastback coupe version, or a drop top derivative. While maybe not recognizable straight away to the average enthusiast as "cobra-related" you can bet that the American V8 will be instantly noticed on start up or as it laps you on the twisties. We will be treated to both a coupe and convertible AC 428 at this year's Forest Grove Concours courtesy of owner and restorer Jim Feldman of Portland, OR.

428 Frua Forum / An unknown 428....
« on: January 04, 2015, 12:50:13 »
Going through some old Windows XP files over the Christmas break, I suddenly found 4 pics of a left hand drive automatic fastback Reg: NJT 430H that for some reason hadn't been transferred across to my current laptop.

Curiously there's no record of it anywhere so hopefully someone might recognise it, otherwise it'll have to stay as "Unknown 14" for the time being.....

428 Frua Forum / A real mystery !
« on: September 26, 2014, 17:01:01 »
Couldn't believe it when I first saw this pic earlier today during a Google image search as I'd never seen it before, so on the offchance it wasn't taken years ago and is now way out of date, any ideas from French members in or near Paris on how to track it down as it was taken in the Levallois district ?

Click on the beginning only of the long link below to tumblr pic then wait, but no further info there unfortunately....
