Received the following email /link from John Lucke,  Thought it would be of interest to those who follow early racing history of our AC Ace/s. . [;)]

   Keith.

I came across this info on Tam McPartland's web site. It's specific to one Ace but is very early:

   http://www.tamsoldracecarsite.net/BillTibbetts011BobOkerACBristol59.html

The race history indicates it was first raced in Sept. 1956 after arriving from the factory (initial owner Ed Savin).

Looks like the Le Mans Classic got a little wet at times but that everyone had a grand time (AND avoided the type of incident which befell the Chris Cox GTO)!

   John.[;)]

Thank you for the Link, First picture I have of Ed Savins BEX169 in it's original White paint, those I have dating from 1956 onward are all after it was repaint in the familiar Blue.

   Cheers

As the Mongoose seems to have highjacked the original thread, " Aceca for Sale in CA " .. .[V]

Thought it best to Copy the "Mongoose" data and set up a seperate thread and let the two subjects run seperately.

   Hopefully that meets approval .

Walt Petersen built the "MONGOOSE". It was one of the early V8 powered AC roadsters. The guy he built it for took driving lessons from Shelby at Sears Point I think it was. He drove the car in those sessions and I think Shelby was impressed with the thing. There is a Hot Rod magazine article detailing the Mongoose. I have it here somwhere but could not put my hands on it. Walt is still about and retains an Aceca. A friend of mine owns the Bristol engined roadster his wife once raced. Walt lives up in Washington state now.

I watched the white Aceca with a 2.6 Ford race at Sears Point way back when early classic racing began. The guy driving it was a master. He played that car within inches of the wall at the hairpin turn at the end of the straight away.

Interesting bit about the MONGOOSE…I know of at least one V-8 Ace (I believe it was a Buick 215ci) that Walt built for the son of the guy who had the 289 installed in my car. His name was Dennis Snook and was the link to my father’s purchase of my Aceca. I don’t think this was the “Mongoose”, although you prompted me to do some on-line research. I discovered that Shelby did open the “Shelby School of High Performance Driving” at Riverside International Raceway (in Southern Cal) in 1961…just after his decision to quit racing and before the development of the Cobra. I’d be interested in seeing the Hot Rod Magazine Article if you can find it. I believe Walt may have been located in the Southern California area around that time. I will have to contact Walt sometime to see what light he can shed on this story. It is a good idea to retrieve as much history as we can from these custodians of AC history…before it’s too late!

btw - My dad still stays in contact with Walt and informed me that Walt got rid of his Aceca a few years ago (AC engined one I believe). He also confirmed that Walt’s wife (Fran) did race back in the 50’s…in fact “that’s how they met”…as Paul Harvey would say…”and that’s the rest of the story”…

   I have a photocopy of a 2 page article published in August 1963 pages 68 & 69 ... "The Mongoose".

A Red 1958 Ace fitted with a F85 Olds V8 coupled to a 62 Corvette transmission, installed by Jerry Scheberies and Walt Petersen.
The five pictures were taken by John O'Donnel.

Please confirm your email address and I will scan and email copy to you.

John (Jrlucke)Thank you for posting the two page article on Mongoose, Interesting that you live within a few miles of Walt, Maybe it's possible to contact him / visit him.?

Has he any period photos or has he any old documentation that could help ID this particular Ace..

There were a few Ace in the USA fitted with Olds & Buick V8s in the early 1960's some before or about the same time as "Carroll Shelby" launched The AC Cobra.

Tony Bancroft & Tim Isles the ACOC Ace Registrars, have a wealth of historic data on our Aces, But require more information on these V8 conversions, especially what happened to the original AC or Bristol engines and unfinished or crashed/scrapped projects.

Any additional information, however small would be appreciated. Might even help substantiate history on a known Ace or locate one of those lost in time, Which have slipped off the Radar..

General Forum / Thank You - Keiths 60th-
« on: November 16, 2010, 17:06:03 »
Just a quick message to Thank the Fifty or so ACOC members for comming to my 60th Birthday Bash at The Barley Mow, in West Horsley, Surrey on Sunday 14th November.

The weekend Just got Better and Better as time went on,Saturday Night's Dinner with Close Family was a surprise, followed on Sunday with Great Company,Food and Drinks, then presented with a solid silver inscribed (with my name and the AC emblem) Fountain Pen, ten bottles of wine and two bottles of Champagne.
Then topped with Julie presenting me with a Birthday Cake in the shape of my Ace Bristol BEX333. Seemed such a shame to cut it up,  But share it I must ..........[:p]

Thank you all for making it a very Special Day. [:)]

Hopefully someone can post a picture or two of the day, not forgetting the BEX Birthday Cake. to complement this thank you [;)]

Louis Monnier one of our French AC members and ACtive participant with Bertrand Leseur's Le Mans exploits over the past 10 years, has bitten the bullet and is researching the History of all ACE Bristol's that have competed in the Le Mans 24 hour during the Period 1957 through to 1962.
(possible BOOK .. [?]or  ACtion feature [?])

Any information , pictures, "funny" and unusual stories relating
to Entrants, the Aces, the Service crews etc.
   would be appreciated.

General Forum / Le Mans Classic 2010
« on: July 13, 2010, 16:22:34 »
A Big thank you to all ACOC club members who supported Jean Marc and I on this the fifth  Le Mans Classic we have organised.

All 8 Chateau were full and catered for all our needs to the standard we have become accustomed.

Jean Marc, Thank you for pulling all strings to cater for all 125 ACOC members who attended our ACOC Gala Dinner on Friday Night. Hopefully by 2012 the restaraunt has Air Con.  Pheeeww ....zzzz

A very cosmoplitan mix of ACOC members, with 82 from the UK and the balance from as far afield as Luxemburg, Germany, France, Barvaria, Portugal, Hong Kong and  the 10 Members of the Mulacek Family who flew in from Chicago (USA) accompanied  by 4 AC Ace Bristol's.
Well done Ron & Mauricette Mulacek.  Ron to save on air frieght costs you can always leave any one of the 4 Ace Bristols with me for safe keeping and to keep BEX333 company .... Not proud which one, all four were great restorations.

During Saturday, I counted over 40 ACs on the Club Stand with various other AC's in other areas of the Bugatti Circuit and  further Aces and Cobras in three of the six paddocks.

The massive Picture of John Deveson's 1959 Le Mans 24hr winning Ace took pride and place above Jean Marcs similar coloured Ace, a great combination and focul point, too advertise the ACOC !.... brought back to the UK for the ACOC National in August.

Sorry to hear that Bertrand Lesuer's Ace Bristol blew a head gasket in it's fourth and final race, even more sorry to see ACOC Member Constant Wagner's Lotus 11 looking seriously modified and forlorn when it was attacked just 2 kilometres into the first lap of practice.. Just what planet was the other driver on ...[?][?]  Hopefully the FIA look into the incident.

Due to Master Switch and Solenoid problems with BEX333, Julie & I didn't get back to the Circuit for the rest of Sunday's racing,  How did Kevin Kivlochan & Bill Bridges do in The yellow Canary [?] and  ACOC Member (ex AC Ace racer)  John Arnold do in his 1951 Renault 4CV,  Yep! a Renault 4CV.. and very cute it looked too!

Thank you Jean Marc for helping make this our fifth Le Man's Classic a bigger success than our previous four. ( 2002/2004/2006 & 2008).

Last but not least,  Hope all members got home safely without major incident and a very Big Thank You to all the ACOC members who supported Jean Marc Dubost & I throughout the weekend .....
One of ACOC's major International events.

Will download some pictures next weekend ... [;)]  with additional photos from any one who wishes to contribute.
