General Forum / Prince Bishops Festival of Transport 12 June
« on: November 24, 2009, 19:57:37 »
The club has been invited to attend a new classic car, bike and commercial vehicle show next year. It’s called Prince Bishops Festival of Transport and will take place on Saturday 12th June 2010. The venue is Sedgefield Racecourse. I understand  there is a large hard standing area with plenty of car parking and camping facilities.

The organiser is David James and he says in his email " I remember from when I was growing up, a car show didn't cost the earth. Therefore I have decided not to charge an entry fee for anyone who wants to bring a classic vehicle to display in the show. A charge will be made for passengers in order to cover costs, a final figure is yet to be determined but I want to keep it as low as possible to encourage a large attendance. However, the driver and classic will enter for free".

David would like to know the level of interest within the club so please let me know if you are interested and I will put you in touch with David.

   Thanks - John.

General Forum / Cobra on TV in 1966
« on: August 24, 2009, 17:19:10 »
Isn't Youtube wonderful, I had a call from a journalist this afternoon, he is writing about the early days of the M1 motorway and says the AC Cobra will feature heavily as the ideal (pre speed limit) motorway car. We got talking and he mention "The Rat Catchers" which was a short lived TV show in the UK back in 1966.

Back then I was a 13 year old and the show's opening credits sowed the seeds of Cobra ownership.......it's only taken 40 odd years. Hope it brings back a few memories for some of you.

   Cheers - John.

General Forum / Big Cobra feature in the next Octane
« on: August 19, 2009, 11:56:12 »
The next edition of Octane magazine, which is due out in the next seven days, has a feature article on the Cobra. It is a fourteen page feature article with some great photograph of members cars. The magazine organised the photoshoot at Brooklands on the Tuesday after the club's 60th anniversary event at the track and I would like to thank all of the members that very kindly agreed to bring their cars back to Surrey for the magazine. As you will see from the article we were very luck with the weather and there are some great images of our vehicles. A few club members were there with their cameras and we hope to contribute an article to the club magazine soon.

This edition of Octane also includes a two page update on the MkV.

It was a challenge rounding-up fourteen Cobras to be in the same place at the same time so thanks again for all your help and support.
   Cheers - John

Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / AC 16/60 built in 1934 or 35
« on: July 13, 2009, 19:08:09 »
As my email address is on the website I get a lot of mail. Most is junk but this one I hope we can help with.
The following email also has a few photos of the car. If you think you can help or tell me the best person to forward it to please do.
   Thanks - John.

   Dear John,

I am contacting you through this email address, as this appears to be the only address mentioned on the website.
The enquiries form does not work. I hope that you will be able to direct me to the person that might answer my question below.

   Email says
I am the owner of a AC 16/60(?) build in 1934/35. The bodywork type is drophead coupe. The engine number is UMB 434. I have not  been able to read the chassis number, as it is still verry dirty.

I would like to make some enquiries in relation to the restoration of this AC, which I am planning to start soon. Could you please let me know who I may contact by email in order to acquire some more information on restorating my AC. Many thanks in advance.

   Kind regards

   Fred Nijburg.

General Forum / Calling Cobra owners near Stoke-on-Trent
« on: April 23, 2009, 12:37:49 »
I recently received a request from a chap in Stoke-on-Trent. Six months ago his 36 year old wife, Nadine, had nine hours of emergency brain surgery to remove a tumour. The operation was a success but she has now lost her sense of smell and taste as well as her sight in one eye. Apparently the other day her husband asked her what she would do if she had a magic wand to wish for anything. Straight away she said "I'd love to be a passenger in an AC Cobra being driven through the countryside."

So if we have any members living near Stoke that have a Cobra and would be interested in helping please let me know and I will put you in touch.

   Many thanks - John.

General Forum / ‘Millbrook Experience’ days
« on: April 14, 2009, 17:33:50 »
I recently recieved a marketing email for‘Millbrook Experience’ days and thought I would post it here. I am not intending to promote the opportunity or provide free advertising, but thought I would post the info here to see if there is any interest from other members.
I was fortunate to drive 4 of the circuits at Millbrook earlier this year and it was a very enjoyable half-day. The organiser says ACOC members will get a £20 discount  The normal cost for this course is £250 + VAT.

They say the 'Millbrook Experience' is ideal for car owners who want to get to grips with handling their vehicle and experience driving their car around a variety of different courses.

Each session consists of 2 hours driving on the circuits at Millbrook Proving Ground, which includes the High-speed Bowl, the Mile straight, the alpine route the Handling circuit and the Steering Pad with Figure of 8.  Accompanied by a qualified and experienced driver for the duration of the course as their personal driver coach, participants will be introduced to driving skills and practices in car control and handling helping them to get the best from their vehicle.

Bookings include venue hire and 1 to 1 instruction.

It says AC Cars is to launch a new version of the Cobra this week in Monaco. The car is to feature a removable hardtop with gullwing doors. The article says the body will be aluminium with composite structural elements. The new MkVI will have air-conditioning an engine from a Corvette and brakes from Porsche.

General Forum / "Dads Day" charity driving at Dunsfold
« on: March 26, 2009, 16:02:32 »
Anyone fancy being part of the static car display at the Top Gear track at Dunsfold in Surrey for a charity supercar day in May ?

The charity is The Children’s Trust, a national charity working with children who have multiple disabilities. They are based at a 24 acre site in Tadworth, Surrey and offer services to children across the UK.

The "Dads Day" event is at Dunsfold Park-  on Saturday, 16th May from 10-4.30pm, they already have Club Scuderia and Petrolhead Nirvana. involved, but would be very happy if the ACOC joined in with a few cars.

Dunsfold Aerodrome is located close to the A281, to the west of Cranleigh, Surrey, 11 miles south of Guildford on the A281 and 13 miles north of Horsham on the A281.

This year we will only have to option of static disply, but next year we may get to play with our cars on the track[:)]

   The website says ....
Club Scuderia and Petrolhead Nirvana will be turning out in  Ferraris, Maseratis and Lamborghinis, to give car enthusiasts, young and old, a turn around some of the infamous corners. There will also be Fire Engine and Double Decker Bus rides, 4 Ferrari simulators and a Slot Car competition, a static vehicle display including a varied selection of classic and interesting vehicles and the Air Ambulance.
